Liberalisation of Education
by Dr.B.G.Mahesh Krishna on Dec 22, 2005 05:30 PM  Permalink

I fully endorse the opinion of the author. It is high time that the policy makers realise about this.

We can develope Private universities in our country & it shall prove to be very good for the nation in general & student community at large.

The government can also allow entry of Foreign universities into India. Ofcourse the government shall have a responsiblity in fixation of fee structure to ensure that they are affordable & with in common man's reach.

With India being a signatory of WTO & other International agreements can we foresee any improvements in the field of education?

IITs, world's 3rd best tech universities
by kumar hemant on Dec 22, 2005 05:28 PM  Permalink

IITs are ranked the 3rd best tech university next to MIT and UC Berkeley by Times Higher Education Supplement. Last year it was 4th best as well in the same esteemed ranking. As well, in science it is ranked 36th in the world.
BHU is called as Oxbridge of India? How it can be missed as a world class university which has excellence in research and academics. It is much better than Allahabad, Calcutta and Delhi Universities. Indeed there stand no comparision between BHU and these cited university. Allahabad a long back was indeed good, but no more after coming up BHU. IISC is something we should be proud of but global media knows the brand IIT as a whole.

Education Raj
by S. S. Bal on Dec 22, 2005 05:02 PM  Permalink

If this is the standard of Indian Education in the World of a nation where education is the 1st priority of each parent no wounder we are last in the list of International Sports and the Olympics as it is not even the last priority of most parents. No wonder everybody including China beats us in most fields be it Education or Sports and Sports education is unheard of.

No its wrong !!!
by Harish on Dec 22, 2005 02:13 PM  Permalink

Who said our Vice chancellors of various universities are doing nothing to improve education?

As far as atleast Chennai Education is concerned they are very much involed in doing the following..
1. Restricting students to bring cell phones
2. Strict dress code (no jeans for guys and no shirts for girls)
3. Compulsory canteen fees, bus fees, etc
4. Putting fines for students not abiding to these "Rules"
5. In some colleges girls can mingle and boys can mingle but girls and boys - no jingle-mingle

Dont u think these are strategic plans for reaching the top 100 universities?
Shame on us and the lifeless people who even think of such rules instead of doing better things to improve the Quality of education.

Well said
by Vijayaraghavan on Dec 22, 2005 12:27 PM  Permalink

People simply have turned a blind eye towards it. Even at a juncture when all academics are at highest offices and decision making positions this continues. Its a shame!

Govt's approach is rather unhealthy. When people want more investment in education it says that whn u r not able to afford good education then take loan and study. And they talk of brain drain. This will cost India dear.
