Re: who needs secularism?
by Raj Maliger on Aug 30, 2005 05:37 AM  Permalink

Yes it was a well-written article! However there are few concerns. Where in the Hindu scriptures it is stated that Sati be practiced? If we read Mahabharath, when great warriors died in the battle of Kurukshetra, none of their wives jumped into fire during cremation. Sati came into practice only in th last 3000 years. Whereas, Quran strictly asks women to wear 'burkha'.

As far 'Brahminism' is concerned nowhere it is stated that Brahmins are a superior race. 'Brahman Janati it Brahmanah'--meaning one who knows about Brahman is Brahmana. A person is Brahmana not by birth, but because of his virtue. Similarly he is a Kshatriya because of his warrior skills and not by birth. We need to understand this.

Indian Hypocracy
by Dinesh Singh on Aug 30, 2005 12:14 AM  Permalink

Indian Democracy is another name of hypocracy. India is called as largest democratic country in the world. I will ask each citizen to answer this question. Do they feel it that they live in democratic country?? ATleast I will say that I dont feel this way. How many Indians feel they have freedom of speech ? For me India is like some comsumable stuff which politicians are eating and eating it. Bunch of morans are sitting in assembly and parliament. All illiterate jack of no trade and master of crimes. Initially these politician begs you for vote and then after coming to power make you beg to them. In Bihar politicians not even beg to people. They just get into power with the help of gunda elements. Well it holds true every where in Tndia but much apparently in Bihar. How many politicians in India we see as graduate or in real sense literate ? We can count them in hand. Even some are good but then they are not allowed to take good decisions or may be killed later by some oposition gunda party elements. BJP is trying to get on Ram mandir. Congress is trying to make quota for Muslims. Then some party is asking for Jain quota. I mean whats going on here in India ? Have you heard of all

How, dear brother, How?

Nice and upbeat but fails; in one vital area: The road map
There have been many who think like you, but where is the action plan? Forget what Nehru, Indira or VP Singh did for the moment. Take today as status quo and tell me how are you going to achieve these lofty ideals? Who will be your generals and who will be the foot soldiers? The same politicians who got us here? Think again. Coffee shop talk is one thing and harsh practicality another.

Every statement is true!
by ridhee on Aug 29, 2005 11:19 PM  Permalink

Thank you mr. ramanand for such a wonderfully written article on secularism. I totally agree that a country becomes secular only when the law and order is correctly practised. Inappropriate pre-existent norms and practices should all be put an end to, and only then will India be called truly independant and secular and most of all THE NATION!

Who needs Secularism..
by Shriram on Aug 29, 2005 04:39 PM  Permalink

I agree with the author's comments. In this country, reservation should be based on the economic status of the individual and not of birth. Unless we reach this state, people will continue to abuse the privileges.

Mr sengupta is upright and upfront....applause to him
We need to fight the forces which r trying to devide this country on the basis of religion, caste and language...and that can happen when we inculcate the feeling of nationalism in our countrymen...that nation comes above all

secularism -> what crap
by anil on Aug 29, 2005 12:36 PM  Permalink

secularism - separating church(religion) from state - is about governing people without taking into account their religious beliefs.
it is perhaps good in theory, but also creates other problems like gay marriages. it is because some religions ban such practices that they became law. what right would a government have any right to tell its citizens who they may marry. else people could even marry their pet animals as long as it does not cause harm to anyone else.
religions give us the code of ethics but religion alone cannot handle all the issues of society today. can relgion solve specific issues like cloning, stem cell research, monopoly by powerful groups, space travel, scientific research, development works etc.

Totally agree
by Democrazy on Aug 29, 2005 12:30 PM  Permalink

Why am I overwhelmed and write in to applaud such articles is the increase of such writers, who have no fear to call a spade a spade. I would put this as them being enlightened. I hope all the hindus see through the minority appeasement policy of the government. At least start reading indiacause.com.

Secular means no subisidies for HAJ travel, no grants for madrassas (I would rather see all of them closed down), unbiased reporting of the Indian English Print Media, a Uniform Civl Code. Yes, that means no shariat, obey the constitution like everybody else. You are nobody special. And stop procreating; you are the reason there is no social security by the government.

an effective and excellent article, I fully agree with the fact that country has been divided into casts and religion by that man V.P.Singh and he should be nailed for that.
