secularism - separating church(religion) from state - is about governing people without taking into account their religious beliefs. it is perhaps good in theory, but also creates other problems like gay marriages. it is because some religions ban such practices that they became law. what right would a government have any right to tell its citizens who they may marry. else people could even marry their pet animals as long as it does not cause harm to anyone else. religions give us the code of ethics but religion alone cannot handle all the issues of society today. can relgion solve specific issues like cloning, stem cell research, monopoly by powerful groups, space travel, scientific research, development works etc.
