2nd........... i think its 1st
by Amrit on Dec 02, 2006 06:23 AM  Permalink

2nd by the numbers of cases presented 2 govt hospitals etc.what about those people, who r infected & do not tell anyone in fear of discrimination.i know many cases where families lock their family members inside a room if he/she is infected with HIV.Being a doctor, i can say that the way AIDS/HIV has been presented to our community, people are afraid 2 come out and say that they r infected. We need 2 give the real facts out in the villages of Punjab,Haryana,Bihar etc from where truck drivers come to different parts of the country & get infected.World AIDS day was being presented everywhere in the world, even in our country.in delhi, in bombay,in panipat,in amritsar,in jalandhar,in karnal,in hyderabad,in calcutta;but who knew about it in small villages, where there are no prostitutes.but many men are drivers who spend a lots of time out of their homes while they are on a trip and they end up making ileegitimate relatoinships outside and get infected.Who knew in villages where most of the young generation boys are using infected needles from each other while taking drugs..... that is what our target should be.lecturing from a stage or having clinton there is not going 2 help at all.

Awareness.
by Sai on Nov 26, 2006 12:20 AM  Permalink

India should wake up to the AIDS crisis. Awareness should be created until the grassroot level. Women have an important role to play in this aspect. Use of condoms should be enforced which only is a preventive measure. More importantly, its crucial that medical health care system is provided as a priority for HIV patients and that they receive the same humane gesture and not criticised. Buckle up India!

India must declare AIDS a crisis
by R.Singh on Aug 06, 2006 07:45 AM  Permalink

India is number one, so far AIDS/HIV affected people are concerned. This has duly been recognised by UNAIDS,but contested by Indian Govt., who is still sleeping over it.In my opinion, even UNAIDS has projected numbers which are only 50%of the actuals. In India atleast one % of its population is affected by AIDS/HIV.The maximum number of people, who are affected by AIDS/HIV are migrant labourers including drivers, rikshaw pullers, coolies and othre daily wage earners, who come from Bihar or eastern part of UP, leaving their family in the villages. They are getting this disease due to unprotected sex in metros and other places of their work and take it to their vilage where their wives spread it through illicit relationship in their absence. No body is even talking this aspect as they are afraid of retiliation faced by SAHYOG and some other NGOs at the turn of the century.AIDS/HIV, in India, can not be tackled effectively, unless this aspect is taken into consideration.Up till date even proper datas are not available about the affected people in this region i.e.Bihar and eastern UP, otherwise that region would have been declared number one in India.

Are we geared up for this
by rajesh malhotra on Aug 25, 2005 02:10 PM  Permalink

Sir,
While I thank you for ringing the alarm bells as far as the AIDS crisis is concerned, I have my strong doubts if we as a nation are geared up to deal with this crisis.

First of all we should be concerned as to how we allowed a deadly disease like AIDS, reach such alarming proportions. For how long will we remain alien to terms like prevention and precaution.
Secondly as rightly pointed out by you that though our public healthcare system, has the biggest role to play, we all know how well it is equipped to deal with this calamity. What to say of a public healthcare system which till date has not been able to deal with Malaria, TB or typhoid.
To add to all this our status as a developing nation riddled by extreme poverty, will create its own share of hinderences to deal with something as dangerous as AIDS.
So where do we go from here. I think we will have to work on multiple levels, with all the sincerity, intensity and most importantly with ferocious pace.
Though the disease has already blown out of proportion in India, it will have to be the people of India (Who have allowed AIDS to grow all this while) to deal with it on a war footing.

Thanks
Rajesh Malhotra

AIDS IN INDIA A MENANCE
by Dr. Ramchandra Tulshibagwale on Aug 24, 2005 11:58 PM  Permalink

In view of emerging economy most of the HIV patients falling in age group of 25-40 will it be detrimental to local building construction industry that impact may be felt later as a jolt of abundant supply with few demands in matter of 5 years. Similar equation can be put to manufacturing industry if the demographic distribution of frequency shift to right( 50 onwards)? Perchasing needs of 25-45 age group lasts and remains always higher.Crisis if not sensed now, when?

India must declare AIDS a crisis
by labrea on Aug 24, 2005 09:39 PM  Permalink

India is a land of hypocracy, where sex is a tobboo subject but umpteem poses of sexual acts can be seen on temple walls. Victorian prudery has taken the place of common sense and open-mindedness. As such, any discussion of AIDS and other STDs will be shunned as being too shameful to even speak about - and thousands die everyday because of this stupidity and hypocracy.

Focus on AIDS
by Jolly on Aug 24, 2005 08:11 PM  Permalink

I completely agree with Subir. IT IS HIGH TIME NOW to get into action.
To support, India should make prostitution as legal. And secondly make condoms available IN ABUNDANCE. Making prostitution legal will facilitate providing an infrastructure for NGOs/supporting organizations to reach-out to people / places where the need for condoms is and to provide structured focus to their efforts.

Thanks,
