Nuclear power could be a good option & business proposition because it's one of the cleanest source of energy for India's growing energy needs & an alternate to black gold. This will ensure India's economic growth and save/invite FDI for infrastructure. How about the issues like: 1. What is the future of energy? The answer would be surely not hydrocarbons then what? Is it wind energy? Is it ocean energy? Is it solar or bio energy? Recently, an article in The Economist, says governments in the US are heavily spending on wind energy. 2. Safety measures & dumping of nuclear waste? We still have bitter memories of aftermath of nuclear bomb in world war II. The impact of radiaton is still there in Japan. Do we have solution and if yes can we afford to buy it? 3. Future of India's strategic & security needs? After globalisation the whole world has evolved as a market, a lot of interdependencies & multiple power centers. Living in such a complex web of business, politics, networked economies, technologies what is our security needs? 4. Technology proliferation? CIA believes that in past few years many countries involved in providing "know how" to extremists, a potential problem?
Ever notice that the trade between the developing world and the industrial nations tends to go up after a nuclear test. This has been the case with China and this has been the case with India. Nuclear weapons are abviously necessary for defense reasons but they are equally necessary for business reasons. Nuclear weapons are great leverage point from which to attract more business.
Industrial nations are so concerned about political stability the world over that they will do what ever it takes to appease the countries with a nuclear porgram. For India, this means increased investment till the day when India gives up its nuclear program. This is like a unending catch 22 in favor of India.
good article.facts are what makes the understanding.here we have a deal which can solve our energy needs and follow up the country's advancements...indeed, its gonna beneficial for US also...this deal can improve our bilateral relations drastically...US, then can have a country to curb Chinese hostalities..( remember how US destroyed Soviet Union)
This deal can be a milestone for US to keep its SUPER SUPER POWER stature in the 21st century... If not done, they are going to doom away..
Why are we here today ? 1974 is the year when we tested our first device, which we've had 3 decades to ourselves to solely develop our expertise in this field to atleast the extent that we would need not tassle for "rights to supply" of nuclear fuel or more importantly, nuclear reactors. We might be looked up as able candidates for exclusive nuclear groups but have we concrete justifications for such invtitations ? We are starved of nuclear fuel and we are still dependant on russia and france for reactors.
