What's the future of energy?
by Sunita on Jul 08, 2006 10:50 AM

Nuclear power could be a good option & business proposition because it's one of the cleanest source of energy for India's growing energy needs & an alternate to black gold. This will ensure India's economic growth and save/invite FDI for infrastructure.
How about the issues like: 1. What is the future of energy? The answer would be surely not hydrocarbons then what? Is it wind energy? Is it ocean energy? Is it solar or bio energy? Recently, an article in The Economist, says governments in the US are heavily spending on wind energy. 2. Safety measures & dumping of nuclear waste? We still have bitter memories of aftermath of nuclear bomb in world war II. The impact of radiaton is still there in Japan. Do we have solution and if yes can we afford to buy it? 3. Future of India's strategic & security needs? After globalisation the whole world has evolved as a market, a lot of interdependencies & multiple power centers. Living in such a complex web of business, politics, networked economies, technologies what is our security needs?
4. Technology proliferation? CIA believes that in past few years many countries involved in providing "know how" to extremists, a potential problem?
