rain god
by Maulik Shah on Aug 06, 2005 01:34 PM  Permalink

I think mumbaikar is making a big issue of the rain of 26th of July. Gujaratis in Gujarat have had experienced several natural and man made calamities in the last five years, eventhough, they have recovered very fast.

Don't depend on the govt. to act for you.
You act for yourself and that is the way life goes on.

take care.

OUR STATE GOVERNMENT
by MATHEW on Aug 06, 2005 11:49 AM  Permalink

It is surprising to read in news paper columns that our Hon\'ble Chief Minister stayed back at his government provided VARSHA and was calling numerous press conference.

I think, a disabled person himself / herself is very well aware of his / her disability. So, the people who passed through all the suffering and loss of human life, are well aware of their pathetic condition. people sitting in air condition room and different decorated places can not understand the sufferings of the real sufferer.

I think, same is the case of our Churchgate Virar bound local suburban train. Govinda came and gained mileage out of his early morning trip to Virar by local train, when there is no rush hours. I think, the ministers themself come and have a look at the pathetic condition of comutters in the above route.

Is there anybody (ministers / elected representatives of the respective areas) listening / reading. God is watching everything.

Thanks for your reading.

Lack of Morality
by Pankaj on Aug 06, 2005 11:39 AM  Permalink

It was sad to see the leading city of our country submerged and halted in such a way. Lack of proper manegement from the M,bai administration is apparent but to see that no youth group or any volunteer group is comming out in the midst of such a mess to help there own people is horryfying. What has happened to the people of this great city? Is this a lack of moral feeling of our social responsibility? Is this a effect of the fast-track life style where there is know emotions and no time to know and talk to our own people? Something is missing out of our people. This was not always the case.

Fines may help
by Nagendra Pratap Singh on Aug 06, 2005 05:36 AM  Permalink

Important places like Platforms/Bus stops/Main streets should have fines for spitting etc.

People may spit in their homes/on thier freinds'/relatives' homes or the neighbourhood only ( if they agree). But they should not be allowed to dirty someone else's space

Mumbai rains
by Sundar on Aug 05, 2005 11:32 PM  Permalink

Hey,this is the problem of every city , Just three weeks before (JULY 16 th)there was such a simmilar incident in Hyderabad, Log jammed in water after a heavy out pour of rain of 6 cm in just two hours , and the hell fall down on Hyderabadis,

Every other guy in Hyderabad loggjammed in traffic including central minister Oscar fernadez and State ministers.

People fell into Man holes and roads turned into accident spree zones

This season, earlier it was in Gujarat wher flash flood hit a running train and hundreds stranded in it waiting for help, next it was in Hydeabad where lakhs stranded on roads for more than half a day, then its Mumbai now so our Indian govts are equally apathitic to commeners
See, problems to every big city are same in India

There should be some common action plan among the major cities for overall developement and not just much talked Airports improvent and upgradig air reach facility to high income groups to show case our hyphothetical developement during globalization

There should be a overall development for every citizen of a city so that some national disasters can be averted as happened to Ahmedabad in 2001 E'quake and Mumbai now

we don't need a government
by abhay ekbote on Aug 05, 2005 11:23 PM  Permalink

Dont blame on the Government, they are there for themselves, for minorities.
dont blame the weather, you cannot change it
dont blame the politicians, they are there to make money for themselves.
dont blame BMC, they are there to take salaries and look for the next holiday on the calender
dont blame the bolywood, they are there to make big monies.. not for u
so.. start doing a small help to yourself, if u can clean a little bit, do it

if u can avoid adding to the garbage.. do it
if u can come together and help the neighbour hood
do it...
each one of us do one thing at a time... and u will
see the solution is there...

Charity begins at home.
by S. Adhiraj on Aug 05, 2005 10:11 PM  Permalink

With what mumbai has seen in the past few days, i feel that it is time that every Mumbaikar should stop and thi what can he do to better our very own city. It not the time to wait for a handful of senior leaders to woo the Corporate heads and the Govt. to pour in funds at their leisure time and then start working. What is really needed is that we divide mumbai not into zones but local areas and see what can be done to avoid such calamities in future.

I do not write much, but I feel that it is time that we divide the task amongst ourselves. Convert the shakas( so called office, where we spot our netas playing cards, smoking etc.) into a center where we approach with a solution and look forward to clean our vicinity. We do not need a government to clean our area. Govt. is there to wait for the next calamity.

Wake up, Mumbaikars. It is been 4 years since I am out of Mumbai, but the name still attracts me the most. The charm is not to be found even at Times Square or standing near Statue of Liberty. Please do not lose it.

Population
by pankaj on Aug 05, 2005 09:52 PM  Permalink

I will say providing infrastructure for good life for a billion people is a Herculean task not only for India but any other developed country as well.

UK is so advanced and rich but even then it cant provide a good valuable life if its population is merely doubled.

Perhaps good thing are inversely proportional to the numbers.

So If I have to make one wish for my country I will ask this...

"Let my country's population be so much that every life becomes valuable."

This is too big problem to handle by any organization alone and I bet no government has the courage to take any drastic steps towards this problem.

Cheers!!!
Pankaj
