What Citizens Can Do??
by Harshal on Aug 03, 2005 04:01 PM  Permalink

TAgreed we the citizens are to be blamed with the Joke in the name of Govt. But is our system transparent?? Do the systems take action only if we take out time and send them letters of our worries??? They have not been acting as I or many of us will like them to. People are so illogical when it comes to waiting, be it anywhere. Just go bend or break the rule. Becoz if you wait you are not going anywhere. If that was not enough, we have got numerous wild BEST Buses and Autos waiting to capture that last inch of space that was there. Get real, make rules and punish those who breaks it.
BMC, I honestly think should be dissolved as in last 6 year of traveling/using of western express highway left me wanting more, in all aspects. Waste of Taxes. My Honda City is in a real bad state and no its not becoz I drive rack less or have weak breaks to slowdown for potholes. Nop its just that these BMC or the authority which looks after road are only promising of good condition roads just before the rains every year to be slapped in the face by fact of poor, sorry, pathetic conditions of what is left as roads. Things like this are to be taken care of immediately and in a proper way.

What a Mess(age)
by N on Aug 03, 2005 04:00 PM  Permalink

I heard the CM and Mr.R.R.Patil speaking on the television saying its a natural disaster and they could not have anticipated rains on this scale.I say a government is worth the millions of votes if it shows superior sense in precisely these conditions when everyone looks at the government for direction and action.Does the CM mean that the government is useless in times of disaster? I admire the spirit of the Mumbaikars but I also have a complaint. No one can mess up your standard of living until you allow them to do so.If one does not voice their concerns regarding garbage disposal, transportation etc.,the government would obviously be totally unmindful to the Mumbaikars' plight.Nature has provided a rude shock to the Mumbaikars' to wake up and take some action.

Rain ...Rain...Mumbrain
by Deep on Aug 03, 2005 03:46 PM  Permalink

To blame we have 'n' number of bodies/autjorities. But to solve it we have nothing till now. That is we are Mumbaites!!!
I would like try to find out some solutions by this with you friends.
1.Instead of requesting public to move by busses, if they request to avoid the journey and return to home / offices , I am damsure the traffic would have been better to manage.I also say all will not respond positively their request at momentum. But at least 20-30 % of public will think in that way.
2.Remember you eat your mobile for minutes and hours please do not forget to think of others who are trying vehemently to get an information of thier belatives.
3.We all should be prepared to face a crisis when we cultivate the city. This time it was flood!!
4.The traffic police failed to stop or convince the public to think twice before move ahead.
5.Now as per the weather forecast we are to receive one more heavy rain in 2 days. If you feel the situation goes out of control, stay where you are or find nearest high platform .
6.Try to calm your co-walkers/ travellers if they get tensed to find a immediate solution.
7.If you see the atmosphere bad out there, just cancel your outing plan.

Do not pay Tax
by Pritam Sadaphule on Aug 03, 2005 03:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Mumbaikar

I am one of the mumbaikar staying in London and helplessly watching the news of floods .After watching the pictures my heart started bleeding

Fortunately everyone from my family is safe but my house in ground floor devastated completed .

I am very surprised that inspite of paying almost 40% of tax of entire country by Mumbai people the central Government and state government is not doing anything to Avoid this kind of Situation .

Blame equally goes to mumbaikar for throwing the Garbage in Gutter and Nallas to Block the way of water.

So I publicly appeal to everyone ( those who read and tell to others ) not to throw Bin bags and Garbage in Nallas and also appeal to Public not to pay tax untill Government act and create Disaster management and funds start flowing to Mumbai

My deep condolence to the family who suffered and lost their loved ones

Pritam Sadaphule

London

Govt and the Administration only at blame
by Arun Jadhav on Aug 03, 2005 03:26 PM  Permalink

I agree with all the peoples views who say that the People share equal blame. But I feel, the Govt and te Administration is to be blamed even for all the the reasons.

For Eg, the Dirt in Mumbai.
Who do you think make the most of the Garbage/Dirt. Out of the Lot of category, consider the hawkers. Where do they dump the garbage. Like the Garbage collectors in housing societies, there are no garbage collectors for the Hawkers garbage which they throw any where they find convinient. Then The Slums. Has the Govt made any provisions for the garbage from their areas. They Stink but no body is bothered since they are slums.

All the improvements suggested in the 1992 Mckinsey report remain only in papers. Gvt spent crores in creating this report to change the systems. Where is the action on this report.

You look at any of the factor mentioned in all the articles, there is Govt to be held responsible Directly or indirectly.

Arun Jadhav.

Mumbaikers to blame
by K. Kundu on Aug 03, 2005 03:12 PM  Permalink

Let all of us answer the below five questions:

a) How many times a day, I spit on the road?
b) How many plastic bags are dumped in a week in garbage by me or my family?
c) How often I throw litters outside?
d) How many times a day, I cross road without waiting for Signal?
e) For the people, who drive, how many times a week, I jump signals?

If the answers to all five queries are 'NEVER'; then blame the government. Else, first let us change ourselves

Why Play a blame Game???
by Adityash on Aug 03, 2005 03:11 PM  Permalink

In the Message Board where some of the big brains have blamed the Mumbaities for the flooding the Mumbai, acutally are not aware of the real facts. They say stop blaming rains, "blame the Mumbaities" "Wise Up Mumbaities" "God bless Mumbaikars" "Mumbai is by far the dirtiest city in India, and dare I say, the world" etc etc. Think who are responsible, no one of the Mumbaities is responsible, it happened it was going to happened, No warnings was given Why? Dont we have any equipments for the same to find out such disasters. Ok It happened the British build the city but mind it they did it for themselves but we developed it. Only views like this come when Mumbai goes through this distress starts blaming everyone except themselves. Tell me where were those people are, when those people in most affected areas are still staying in dark waiting for the help.People who are trying to blame the plastic bags users must look out for there tiffin box in their bag which are wrapped in plastic bags. Sitting in Dubai/Kuwait getting an SMS preaching the Indians is very simple than coming here & be a part of suffering.
