woman safe?
by Jayprakash on Apr 27, 2005 07:11 PM  Permalink

As per HINDU phylosophy , The Indian society is dominated by males. Top of this the "Manusmiti" had devided the society in to five classes. The bottom most class is of womans. All the mans from other top four classes are allowded to treat the womans like slaves. This domination is going on from ages together. To change the culture,Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had tried to bring equality of all human beings including womans through our Indian constitution. But the implementation machinary is in the hands of Mans and specialy from the mans of top class as decribed by "Manu". They were, are and will try to crub all the ways and means to brought equality. The path choosen by Babasaheb Ambedkar to convert all the Indians in to the golden path of like " The Buddhisum" definately would have leaded to the safest society. But this is also not seen the day light till date. The only solution to this problem is change the male dominating Hindu culture in to the society of Equality ie get in to the path of BUDDHA. I hope my fellow Indians will take this message in right spirit.

PERVERSION
by Hanif Mohammed on Apr 26, 2005 06:20 PM  Permalink

There is always a bad apple in a basket of apples. There are bad police men too, likewise in our society, with whom we interact on every day basis. However, we as human being should be able to control our desires and emotions, or be considered as animals. Wearing skimpy clothes does not attract rape, as there is no recorded trend around the world that, women are raped because of their dressing sense. Children, mothers, nuns and sisters are raped. Even in conservative countries like Saudi Arabia, women are raped, and there such men are hanged regularly too. In fact, women wearing fashionable and revealing dress, are educated, brave, and able to manage themselves quite well, in any given situation. The victims are the weak and uneducated who are not able to read the minds of such men. Strict punishment is a deterent, and I believe that these culprits should be thrown to the public for judgement, rather than taking them to court and wasting our countries money and resource, with no meaningful outcome. I understand that 99% of such men are acquitted in Indian Courts - what a waste !!

Is Mumabai safe for women?
by mirzasb on Apr 26, 2005 11:31 AM  Permalink

Greetings everybody!

Such (RAPE)cases are happening every day , every hour.(Thanks to *advanced* open free Society.)
Only this one was highlighted so this much of Drama .
May be involvement of a cop is an issue of its advertisement.
For its complete removal ,Implement Islamic Criminal law as a whole (not just one article)in India for the most positive results.
To be specific in this case, Death penalty for the rape cultprit in public for teaching lesson to all others.
OK, not for religious reason but for practical safety reason if ONE thinks so.
see the results.
See the practical results in Saudi Kingdom(supposed to be most Islamic conuntry).Of course for the Good of Humanity.

Shahbaaz.
Your Efforts may fail , but do not fail to make efforts.

my take at this!
by Anandh on Apr 26, 2005 05:57 AM  Permalink

well i want to refer to two other people who stated their views. One with the nick name "proud mumbaikar" has said that migration of people in to mumbai should be stopped. That is a highly obnoxious statement and is against the tenets of human decency.Second a guy called Subbu has said that girls should clothe themselves properly, otherwise men will get attracted to them! What crap! The issue is if you are controlled and not if the other person provokes you (in this case, it is the girl's right to wear what she wants to!).No body control's what men are wear or what they want to do.Are they?

Mumbai?
by Ashfaq Shaikh on Apr 25, 2005 11:19 PM  Permalink

Be honest with your self, it was never for the last five or six years, it is just that this incident has highlighted the issue, because of the specific locality, for the unknowns, only god knows how many would have been the victims in lick-up, and even in their own illegal shelters on about any pretext!

YES and NO ~
by Still_Waters on Apr 25, 2005 10:42 PM  Permalink

If the question is are women safe from the cops ? then it is a big YES. Not all the cops
are capable of such perversion. Does it mean that women are safe from the civilians who are not cops? then it is a big NO. Because you can never apprehend the thousand men of young and old who live on such fantasies every time an innocent girl passes by. Mumbai is safe and it is unsafe. It is both. It all depends on the amount of repression that the society here has undergone in the name of culture and tradition.

I agree with abhijit majumdar to a great extent. A simple fact but so alarming. May be the More would have waited for the night to come when he would have relaxed in the dance bar than to break free like an animal with not much alternatives. I wish to share the pain with the girl and her parents. It is absolutely unfortunate.

is mumbai safe for women
by raghuveer on Apr 25, 2005 09:14 PM  Permalink

Not only mumbai ,perhaps any place and in that matter for anybody would be safe only when a crime committed is punished .
In matters of these where the accused has to be punished very severely ,this is not found to take place .
THUS the only solution to this crime and to assure safety for the women would be HANG HIM the culprit who so ever he is.
