Its becoz Indian policy-makers are not pro-active in their dealings do we have any strategic vision just like Americans have, Americans plan for 2050 in 2005 and we Indians have no such policies. Pakistan and China and Saudi Arabia can never be trusted and its India which goes and tries to break the deadlock, why should India only do that....let them do if they want..anyway India can live even without having diplomatic relations with China, Pakistan and Saudis. World will be a better place to live with if these 3 countries are dealt with properly otherwise in the long run it is these 3 countries that will cause destabilization to the whole world. Pakis thru nuclear proliferation, saudis thru their useless terrorism and the Chinese by backdoor support for these 2 countries by supplying arms, ammuniton, money etc etc.

sharing perception
by N J Ramesh on Apr 29, 2005 07:09 AM  Permalink

The assumption of India dropping guards while pursuing peace is simply not correct; hence 'blow hot blow cold' depiction is also incorrect. The perspective of Pakistan in which Islamic terror being parasitic setups, alien to Pakistani ideal and detrimental to it, is the likely Indian perception, for after we share the common heritage.

The Pot kept boiling suits the Fundamentalists!
by R on Apr 26, 2005 02:48 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Right on the face of it another case from the Sangh Parivar stables! All wars with Pakistan have had Kashmir as the reason. While we Indians go by Maharaj Hari Singh's accession to India, Pakistan has been going on about the right of the people to determine where they should belong. Obviously both sides have merit in their stated positions but as both hold on so tight to their positions and take the confrontation path all along BOTH COUNTRIES ARE LOSING. It is time to grow up!! It is time to seek the middle ground - something that both nations can sell to their respective constituencies AND SURVIVE. Something that is for common good - something by which both nations can put Kashmir beyond them and look into the future for both countries tackling those issues that are even more serious and have a greater impact on the peoples of India and Paksitan both reeling under poverty, corruption and to a large extent both being held hostage OFF AND ON to the fundamentalists be they some Jamait-or-other and our very own Sangh Parivar.

If the leaders of the two countries can begin a proccess of lasting peace then we can also rid ourselves of the sick/rabid Fundamentalists in both countries.

Kashmir is not the only reason for wars with Pak. War with Bangaladesh in 71 had nothing to do with Pak. Kashmir is like the WMD of Iraq to USA. It was the glorious Indian Prime minister who went to UN. Jinna said that the king acceeded and the insurgency was the internal matter of India its people. vk

Never heard of Jinnah acknowledging Kashmir's accession to India. If you can cite your source, I'd be interested in repeating that one far and wide.

Fact based analysis...
by Sanjay A on Apr 25, 2005 07:22 PM  Permalink

A fact based analysis as you have done here, Mr. Rao, would very clearly reveal that Pakistan is indeed an enemy of India to the core. Despite so many CBMs initiated by India, Pakistan has not executed even one CBM that benefits India, e.g. MFN status, handing over the 20 criminals/terrorist refuged in Pakistan including the IC 814 hijackers, etc. The Pakistanis cannot give visas to Indian Tea traders and we talk with Pakistan's administration with so much bon homie it makes me sick. I hate to think what the families of those who died during Kargil must be thinking when they see Gen. Musharraf showered with this blind love and affection in India, after all he was the architect of Kargil War. I would never trust this snake! The only reason he is engaging in diplomacy today is to buy time and build its defenses as well as economy by riding on to India's economic expansion coat-tails. Pakistan's India strategy starts with the K-word and ends with India's balkanization. Pakistan's every move is detrimental to India's security and economic well-being. So what is this nonsense going on in our leader's minds. Why do we have such nincompoops running our nation who refuse to learn.

India-Pak : Same old Story
by J.N.Mahanty on Apr 25, 2005 04:49 PM  Permalink

Mr. Rao's Article is thought provoking and it has very critically examined the Character of Pakistan and very correctly concluded that it is all futile exercises being done by successive India Govt for nothing.
Further, Pakistan continues to be most unpredictable Nation in the World and is always capable of sending shock waves like Kargil.
It is really surprising that the Indian Govt never learns the Lesson and keeps on committing the same blunder over and over again.

In view of the foregoing India must not go ahead with the proposed Gas Pipeline Project with an unprdictable and dangerous Neighbour.

Indo-Pak : Same old story

Mr Rao, presumably puts up in the US of A. It seems that he as well has hawkish eye through which he sees things.

Mr Rao in his eagerness to prove himself and his not-so-important theory, is failing miserably on one important point. It is,"What is Done cannot be Undone".

Mr Musharraf, by getting himself invited and having coming over and deliberating on issues has ensured a permanent plank for us by which we can for ever take into account and put forth on every world fora that, what transpires between "Two Heads of State", atleast post 9/11 cannot be ignored.

This bonhomie that is prevalent now in Indo-Pak relations cannot be undone as trash by any future leadership of both countries, especially Pakistan. Pakistan, especially knows that it cannot be now seen as perpetrator of terrorism as world opinion(read US opinion) is specially against it.

USA does not want another sort of cold war between Ind and Pak as they are busy in Iraq and Afghanistan and probably will be so in Iran and others in future, if it necessiates.

Pakistan, will be the fulcrum from which all these will be handled and Pakistan will surely side with US for the plenty Dollars they will get in retu

What nonsense. Didn't you see Arafat-Rabin-Peres all shaking hands at the Whitehouse and at other foreign capitols? Very lovey-dovey moments between these men soon replaced by terrible violence, complete rupture of diplomatic relations, and constant charges and accusations traded between both sides. What about Vajpayee's infamous Lahore bus trip? Same thing. Naturally any hugs and handshakes between Manmohan and the survival-obsessed Musharraf can fade just as easily. Musharraf's govt is a one-man-act just like Arafat's was. This is in contrast to India's current leadership, for which there are plenty of alternatives. Perhaps it will take Musharraf's death before there is true movement towards peace, just as with Arafat's death.

India- PAK RELATIONS
by K.V.S.Haridas on Apr 24, 2005 07:35 PM  Permalink

The UPA government at Delhi has failed miserably in many fronts and their performance is rather so poor with regard to the external affairs,. That has been prioved beyond doubt during the visit of Pak president Musharaff recently. Our govt has not shown the guts to include the cross border terrorism and the activities of the terrorist organisations in Pakistan in the joint statement issued by the leaders of two nations. We should not have forgotten the terrorist attack at Srinagar just before the inauguration of the bus service to Muzafarabad. Now a days Pakistan is capitalising these failures of our government.
