Reduce the crime rate
by mukesh M on Jun 19, 2008 12:34 PM  Permalink

The only way to reduce the crime rate is to have very severe punishment. This should be common rule for all countries.

Research is Flawed

These numbers should be percent of total population. US is 1/3 of India in population and Murder rate wise more than 1/3rd of India. So US is number in the list. I'm not sure what kind of intelligence these people put behind publishing such report.

On safety front Indian is Heaven
by Deepak Yadav on Jun 19, 2008 12:22 PM  Permalink

In Mexico, Colombia, it is hell. On any International Airport of Colombia tanks will welcome you. On a whole except Brasil and few other countries latin America is in a mess, Courtesy Mafia. Also Brasil to some is infected by this Mafia. In South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria,Congo, Namibia etc you aren't sure if you can come back home safe once you leave for Office.

After travelling across the world,Guys, I have found India is a Heaven.Although ours is a poor nation with 115 Crores on board but still it is thousand times better than hundreds of countries on this globe.

Murder country of the World
by dilip umralkar on Jun 19, 2008 12:11 PM  Permalink

Peace and satisfaction are needed to be imbibed into the minds of Indians, especially the young indians (2/3rd of country's population being less than 35 years). The long lasting antidote would be to familiarise with teachings of Mahavir, Buddha, Guru Nanak...religions which teaches violence and false pride (honour killings!!) and whines away from being Human and treating Humans as Humans is desired. Being tolerant to each and every being created by almighty is desired...this starts at an early age.....you are responsible for your actions...not almighty

MURDERS
by DN Patel on Jun 19, 2008 11:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

SEE OUR POPULATION COUNT 115 CRORES. EVEN IF WE TOTAL THE POPULATION OF ALL THE 8 COUNTRIES MENTIONED THEY WONT TOTAL TO 115 CRORES. SO IF WE LOOK AT OUR POPULATION THE FIGURE OF 32,000 MURDERS IS NOT VERY BIG. ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE MUCH OF OTHER CRIMES LIKE EXTORTION, KIDNAPPINGS ETC WHICH SHOULD BE MORE FOCUSSED BY THE GOVERNMENT.

karthik, understand properly.
author didn't say India is the #1 in the murders. He say it's the Capital. Capital means huge volumes. i.e huge population ,so huge number of murders. The yard stick here is TIME. i.e number of murders/minute. In india it's about 3-4 murders/minute which is higher than anyother countries. A murder is most cruel crime. You cannot justify by saying we are 100 people living in our house & 3 murders/month is not a big thing compared to other village which has 30 people with 2 murders/month.

I appreciate your answer Rajesh but 3 murders out of 100 in a Village makes a rate of 3% which is quite high and is noticeable. Where as the case with India 32000/115 Crores make out 0.00278% which is un noticeable. So I would suggest you weigh your words before you speak up as it shows a Man's Personality.

Though the title of the article is a bit misleading (it refers to numbers, not percentages), the contents of the article say the fact expressed by you.

I agree with you Mr.Patel. The conclusion should be made on taking the ratio of population and number of murders and not only on whole numbers.

Its always good that crime rate should be less but on the contrary there are larger issues which kill more people than this. These are the things which one can keep only to certain extent. It is not clear in the article that these figures contain only murders by individuals or inclusive of terror attacks also.

After all a murder is a murder. I think we must compare with a country which is most populace like us. For Eg. China.

Can anybody pour some info on China's Crime(Murder) Stats, If available

are you trying to tell us that, it's ok to let this go because we are the 2nd larget in population.

I hope the article is aimed at bringing an awareness in public so as to bring the number down.

and also though the figures only talk about murders, with all the other crimes that were included by u...it's the crime in the country that is taking the front seat...!

man, it's murder..! a person is permanently abandonded from living!!!

and we are yet far from the resistance even in words...

The count is a fact that we all indians have to face it with our heads down.
Things start changing only when we become "law enforcers" from mere "law makers"
