karthik, understand properly. author didn't say India is the #1 in the murders. He say it's the Capital. Capital means huge volumes. i.e huge population ,so huge number of murders. The yard stick here is TIME. i.e number of murders/minute. In india it's about 3-4 murders/minute which is higher than anyother countries. A murder is most cruel crime. You cannot justify by saying we are 100 people living in our village & 3 murders/month is not a big thing compared to other village which has 30 people with 2 murders/month. this is not cricket..you need to calculate in a diffrent prespective.
