To me it shows that middle-east regligions are not spiritual but "organisational". They wanted a "well-knit team" that has to accept that their Prophet was the "Best" and "Final". In other words, they "are the champions" - all others are "mis-guided", "deluded", will go to "hell". By contrast, "Indian" religions, even Buddhism, never say, they are the "Best" or "Final". Nothing said about other religions being "false". they directly appeal to the spiritual side of an individual. No specific, universal rules except the personal sincerety and purity of an individual. Thus, all saints and prophets are equal. A Hindu can worship anyone of them. He or She can worship any one of the avatars, or more than one, as he or she chooses. Hence the apparent complexity of Hinduism, why non-Hindus are confused by it.

Dear Ration: thats because Allah was one of many gods of the Arabs..Allah was simply given supremacy over others, and the monotheistic theory took off for its simplicity. Deep down Islam is as polytheistic as any, because it is the nature of man to seek God in all His manifestation. Islam therefore developed more as a doctrine of submission and obedience to a set of commands, claimed to be divine, but clearly coming from Mohammad and his Arab culture.

The very concept of true and false gods is flawed and smacks of God coming out as a gangster than divine. God should hv no problem understanding that all worship are due to him in whatever manifestation. Unfortunately a lot of Muslims in India have not even heard of Shirdi's Sri Sai Baba. Muslims in Nasik and most of the regions of Maharashtra, Andhra pray and offer AARTI to Shirdi Sai Baba and still are pious Muslims for me. Unlike the Semitic religions, hinduism has no founder nor any holy-book. The teachings of hinduism are sperad in hundreds of books. Hinduism is in fact not a religion in its narrow sense. It is a conglomeration of various beliefs and even atheism.
We are not at the mercy of the clerics. The muslims live in constant fear of one fatwa or other and the Christians are afraid of the Church authorities as they can even deny permission to bury the dead.
No high priest can declare me a non-hindu for not believing in any god or prophet. That is the difference between our native culture and the religions originated in West Asia.
