It should never happen again
by JayaKumar Patchala on Aug 07, 2008 09:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I strongly recommend that temples administration is delegated to center rather than wresting the responsibility with cash strapped state governments. Also a central security force akin to industrial security force or CRPF is to be formed to guard temples in our country.
Such stampedes can be avoided if the central government can improve facilities at these temples. There are also some other issues such as unauthorized occupation of temple lands and properties. If central government cannot monitor security at these temples, let them give enough powers to temple management bodies to safe guard both piulgrims and temple properties.

Why waste money on idol worship and raise a central force for it when it is not a part of Hindu religion.
Please read this extract from Hindu scripture:
Bhagwad Geeta
The most popular among all the Hindu scriptures is the Bhagwad Geeta.
Consider the following verse from the Geeta :
Those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires surrender
unto demigods and follow the particular rules and regulations of worship
according to their own natures.
[Bhagwad Geeta chapter 7 verse 20 (B.G. 7:20)]
The Geeta is referring to people who are materialistic and therefore
worship demigods i.e. besides the True God.
Upanishads:
The upanishads are also considered sacred scriptures by the Hindus.
Consider the following verses from the Upanishads :
i) Ekam evaditiyam
"He is One only without a second"
[Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1]1
ii) Consider again, the following verses from the Upanishads :
Na casya kasuj janita na cadhipah.
"Of Him there are neither parents nor Lord"
[Svetasavatara Upanishad 6,9] [ 2part II page 263.]
iii) Consider the following verses from the Upanishads :
Na tasya pratima asti
(There is no likeness of Him.)
[Svetasvatara Upanishad chapter 4:19]
Nainam urdhvam na tiryancam na madhye na parijagrabhat
na tasy pratime asti yasya nama mahad yasah. 3
"There is no likeness of Him whose name is great glory".3
[The principal Upanishad by S. Radhakrishnan pg 736 & 737]
[Sacred Books of the East, volume 15, the Upanish

Managing Temple Affairs
by Nitish Chandan on Aug 07, 2008 07:38 PM  Permalink

Why not a Single Policewala hurt in Naina Devi Stampede????

It’s a matter of utter surprise for the common man that in such a stampede not even a single police man was hurt in the unfortunate Naina Devi incident. The failure of authorities for providing necessary facilities is a serious concern Govt should take care. There should be special arrangements and preparedness for any such type of disasters. I would like to point out some special issues:

1.      The police should be made more sensitive, human friendly because managing devotees is entirely a different affair. This is the reason their poor behavior has resulted in such a tragedy.
2.      Govt or the temple authorities should think of inviting Volunteers to control crowds in Melas, learn how large crowds are managed by Radha Swami and other religious streams without the active help of police. There is large number of devotees waiting to serve at the holy temples during these special occasions.
3.      When there is enough offerings why there is poor infrastructure, ill-maintained roads and insufficient preparedness and management, for God sake please spend devotees money for their safety.
4.      It is observed that the affairs of the temples in Himachal Pradesh are managed by Tehsildars from the Revenue Department, whereas I feel they are expert in revenue work but not in human resource management. Most of their time is spent in revenue related affairs or managing the huge staff of the temples. The Govt may thin

RE:RE:Idol Worship is prohibited in Hinduism:

dont you have your parents or grandparents photos with you and pray before it daily? In the same, in hinduism the god is aroopee (no form) the forms are created by us to our convenience/like (just like the food served on the table and you have interest on few items and have great interest on one item)and give a name (as you name your new born)and start loving it. When you start possessing it, it becomes prayer and remains immortal in your mind.
God has never said you come here and go there where I will give you extra grace. These are man made depending on state of his mind. It is foolish to decry the religion for people short sightedness.

FESTIVAL!
by krishnan on Aug 07, 2008 12:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

During these festival special open area arrangement should be made for Darshan by devotees instead of allowing all the crowd inside the temple to worship god. Main puja should be performed and the Idol for other rituals should be done openly with closed circuit TV around so that every one can view the program wherever they are in the open air. By creating this kind of special attention they want to get publicity but ultimately pilgrims are killed or injured for no fault of theirs. Atleast every temple in India should learn this and stop worshipping the idol inside the temple on these special occasion.

Great i aggree with you, you have brought out the real situation in India. This is the attitude of Most poeple. But also remember, India has progressed well since indepedence, despite All political parties behaving the way you described. No political party is an exception to your description. Have you ever thought. How was it possible for India to progress with most of poeple being the way they are? Again it is result of hard work of a few good people ( The middle class or working community). Trust me we are not far away from a radical change in people's attitude. All those guys who fit your description will change , if not they will perish. The few good responsble people will influnce and impact the rest. If this does not happen then , i guess we witness a bloody revolution in our country. Remember the french used Gelintine on the Royals. what is to prevent us from going the same way on poeple who fit your description
