I live in Pune and commute on the Hadapsar - Solapur road daily, the BRTS system has become a nightmare for all commuters. Since the BRTS bus stand is located in the middle of the road this makes accessing the buses very difficult and dangerous. This project is clearly an example of of our leaderships' failure to understand ground realities and peoples' daily problems. Just because these BRT systems were successful in some foreign country does not mean it will work miracles here. Unless and until decision / policy making is made inclusive of peoples' genuine needs, every initiative by the govt. will be a disaster. Politicians need to forget their individual visions of the future for our country and instead let the people decide for themselves. Politicians / leaders should focus on creating efficient platforms / forums where these issues can be brought out in public and discussed transparently, logically and implemented effectively. Without a transparent system, it would be difficult to build an accountable government. Without accountability! the future scenario is rife with corruption and societal decay.
Just a reminder to all the readers, the BRT as a concept has already being implemented in Pune City. It was the first BRT corridor in India and its sucessfully running in 2 corridors namely Katraj- Swargate and Hadapsar- Swargate, with 6 more corridors being planned and under design.
There were indeed few snags even in Pune, but yet the project went ahead and currently stands as in "running" condition.
On second thoughts, a Ultra low floor Tram can be implemented instead of a BRT. in the same BRT corridor, its both cheaper than a Metro rail and monorail, as well as better blended in road traffic than normal rail and metro transport. Several cities and towns in Europe and Asia successfully run Hi-Tech Ultra low-floor Trams.
In fact a few of "successful" BRT corridors over a period of time ultimately have in fact moved either to Light Rail Systems or Ultra Low Floor Trams.
The closeness of the low floor tram to the rail track and road surface as well as the usage of a overhead pantograph instead of a third rail as in a Metro rail makes is more suitable to blend easily in city trafic along other modes of road transport.
Moreover one low-floor tram can in fact take the load of 4 buses in a single go.
Better way out is to implement the HiTech Low Floor Trams in all existing BRT corridors as the concept of BRT as unimplementable in dense traffic locations like in India.
The govt of India spent crores on widening Delhi roads, not for elites to buy up cars. It is time for people to use public transport in Delhi. The govt must replicate the same system in all major cities as well- introduce metro quickly and strengthen mass transport. On another note, looks like we are still ill-prepared to host the commonwealth games, despite pouring 20K crores on metro, an equal sum on stadia. Taking a big picture view: We could have spent part of this money on improving schools in North India or even clean drinking water everywhere. That would also prevent migration into Delhi.
I thought the Delhi Metro was going to be the answer to Delhi's traffic and transportation woes. What happened? Is the Metro so quickly out of capacity to carry passengers? Did they not plan for the future?

Buddy, Delhi Metro is still growing in its coverage and is still to touch south-delhi. U can say its a boon or its a magic. A highly comfortable, highly safe & secure public transport. I can even leave my grandmother to travel alone in Delhi Metro.

Because that 3% of the traffic carries 60% to 80% people. Understood. And by common sense, about 3 cars occupy more space than a bus and carry about 6 to 10 people at max. Whereas a bus will be carrying about 50 people. Simple logic, simple answer.

Oh my God...We just found a GENIUS in u.... are u frm this planet, or specially landed on earth to raise this question.
We on PLANET EARTH understand that it is not 3% of the traffic, but a bus carrying 60 passengers equivalent to 30 Cars assuming 2 persons per car. Just after writing ur statement, u shud hv atleast thought abt wat u write. Plz understand to solve traffic problems, public transport has to improve & that is true in any part of the world & might be on your planet also. So, improving bus quality, speed, AC in buses is required to attract people use public transport like DELHI METRO.
If govt has to solve the problem by making new roads for increasing traffic (plz remember 1000 new vehicles are registered daily in Delhi), then 1 day govt would have to demolish ur house to make way for increasing the road width outside your house. Guys grow up....Think out of box....vaise dus vi ke paper de chuka hai kya tuu...

Bro I don think u r from Delhi, must be frm some small tinsel town. I knw abt all the roads and the number of registrations done. Have u been to Najafgarh Road or Rohini - Shahadra corridor; traffic situation has improvised after Metro. So right solution would have been something like Metro or Monorail. I've been to much more congested cities than Delhi in Europe (Im a Senior SAP consultant FYI), go n have a look hw many countries run ur Pathetic BRT. Mujhe to lagta hai ki tere baap ne bhi paise khaaye hai shayad ieme isliye u r proponing this sucking blot called BRT. People like u will like BRT may be u like nailing ur wife in traffic jams. lolzzzz

Dear Mr Sr SAP consultant, I trust u that u were in europian countries..and would have seen or may be drove car on 150 KM/Hr but my dear friend there is a huge difference b/w India and developed countries(where poppulation is very less). So this is need of India to promote people to use public transport and when people will use public transport..... Regards
HCBS: stands for High Capacity Bull Shit & BRT : Big Risk to Travel

I have personally seen 15- 20 accident on the same road, i have stoped travelling from that road now. its nothing but a fools paradise and money minching process for a perticular section and a big trouble for all.150 Cr is the money what government has spend on it. i saw one accident on the same road because of the partitioning of the road an Esteem ran ove and hit the pole ,i could see a man injured ,his wife bleeding ,his two year old son bleeding from head badly and 4 years old daughter almost uncontious.WHO IS RESPONSIBLE ??? WHAT HAS GOVT. DONE TO AVOID THE SAME?

Would you say the same if they were fromur family
I feel tnat RITES should restrict itself to the railways only for which it was formed by Ministry of railways. There this venture is a nothing esle but a fools paradise.Copying a system from a country where there is a far less traffic and having more number of lanes in Delhi is nthing but foolishness. Sunitha Rao should not poke her nose in each and every aspect, is she master of all the trades. If govt wants something useful they should think of eleveted expressways.

Elevated Expressway within city....r u crazy....do you think people want to just cross over DElhi or they work within city. This is the problem with all, give crazy solution and wants it to be respected.
But, good you tried to think abt next best alternative to BRT, in case this has to be replaced. But, think more to come out with better proposal.
Yes That's what we Delhities think of this absurd scheme.Ever since it's launch there's been nothing but chaos.I hope better sense prevails & the powers that be scraps this foolhardy venture.Failing which the ruling Party should be shown the door at the next Assembly Elections.

Because of huge media tamasha and opposition parties, both looking for a cause to fill up columns / bite at the government, a good thing should not be abandoned.
Were there no traffic jams earlier, by what extent have they increased, the system needs to stabilize, same was the story with Gurgaon Delhi toll way, the operation is smooth now. Hue and cry about bangalore/ hyderabad airports is similar/ will be similar.
Infrastructure development needs patience and planning.
In any case , if not today, 6 months down the line the roads would have been choked to full capacity with/ without BRT. So a good alternative which can still effect traffic movement ( a public one at that) needs to be welcomed.

abhe dhakan....yeh koi cricket ka match hai ki jab dil kiya wicket uthaa ke ghar chalee gaye, ki abb dil nahi kar raha.. Plz remember, crores have been spent on this project from hard earned tax payers money of people like me & ur parents. I am not sure if you are mature enough to get a job. Minister ka kya jataa hai, ruling party ho ya opposition, but all matters is tax payers money.
It is high time we start spreading the positives which BRT would bring, else the crazy people around us would pressurise govt for ending the project as fiasco.
The main problem in the project is that people driving cars/motor-bikes/Autos & even buses dont want to change their bad habit. They love criss-crossing on the road which BRT doesn't allow. Once people start getting disciplined on the road, all the chaos which every commuter car/bus is facing today would end for good.

What criss-crossing are you talking about, there is not a inch to move here or there. Disciplined driving is not going improve even 1 % on this corridor. You should not touch the subject which you don't know.I am experiencing it daily, it is a pain. Now it has smoothen a bit just because 30 % of people have changed their route which is only viable solution for it

Pandit ji....Mandir mein ho kya.... i have already mentioned that their would be problems in starting and you are facing it. Remember, Change is difficult and painful, but for good. Intelligent pandit ji, firstly how did you derive the %age (30%), was it divine intervention. You should be happy, if people are using BRT roads less & making commuting easier for you. & plz remember, the people who have left the BRT route are those who RESIST change, but slowly they would understand the benefits of BRT & start appreciating it.
