I live in Pune and commute on the Hadapsar - Solapur road daily, the BRTS system has become a nightmare for all commuters. Since the BRTS bus stand is located in the middle of the road this makes accessing the buses very difficult and dangerous. This project is clearly an example of of our leaderships' failure to understand ground realities and peoples' daily problems. Just because these BRT systems were successful in some foreign country does not mean it will work miracles here. Unless and until decision / policy making is made inclusive of peoples' genuine needs, every initiative by the govt. will be a disaster. Politicians need to forget their individual visions of the future for our country and instead let the people decide for themselves. Politicians / leaders should focus on creating efficient platforms / forums where these issues can be brought out in public and discussed transparently, logically and implemented effectively. Without a transparent system, it would be difficult to build an accountable government. Without accountability! the future scenario is rife with corruption and societal decay.
