In my opinion, If one follows Vedanta as way of life is a Hindu. Also if this is heavy to understand then this is more simpler: If you are not a Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jew, Buddhist and any other specific religion not mentioned, then you are you are a Hindu.
Hinduism is a way and not a specific religion. In olden days people in India who did not follow a certain religion due to preachings or enforcement remained to be called as Hindus.

Avinash.U r absolutely right my friend. Hinduism is actually a way of life, like Bhuddism and Humanism.....But today's illiterate blind believers in some GOONDA's parading as Hindu saviours have created narrow minded defination of Hindu religion based on a Folklore !!!!

Every religion is a way of life. Do not try to have false pride. The name 'hindu' was given by arabs.

christianity is from desert middle east started
from the root of abraham and hence judism, islam
christianity are called as ''abrahamic religion'
hinduism is derived from the name of people living in sindu river side and when alexender
greek army came to bharath, they called people
living in sindu river vally people as ''hindus'
word twisted out of sindu. this is similar to
tamil /english words which got derived out of sanskrit. example 'mother'in english came from
''matha',brother in english came from'bratha'
in sanskrit, father in english came from''pitha
'culture' in english came from 'kalacharam'in
sanskrit. similarly many words in tamils came from sanskrit.' vanam' (forest)in sanskrit is still used in govt department in tamilnadu.
there are 240 words of sanskrit which are used in tamil.sanskrit is mother and tamil is son
relationship.

WEll there is only one difference between the thre major religions followed... For christians and muslims everything was given by God.. For Hindus or Sanadhans every little thing is God... that is why the so called hindus or the sanadhans worship sun to cow....

all those who speak against any religion first learn your scriptures and understand the meaning.. also learn other scriptures before criticising... be it deepak or salman rushdie or tasleema nasrin or m.f. hussain.. all these people are crazy... for them what they do is right and they have the money to make a group of people speak about them...

Dont you all see deepak is gaining unrequired Word of Mouth about his book and about him? If we all start to ignore these people our lives would be much more happy and good....

Who is a Hindu?
by Nishant on Apr 24, 2008 10:57 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hindu is DHARMA. it is not a religion like ISLAM, Christianity, Buddhism,

Dharma : how to live peace full life without hurting anybody.
Religion : how to pray the GOD.

Only If You Accept the Vedas
In keeping with this standard definition, all of the Hindu thinkers of the six traditional schools of Hindu philosophy (Shad-darshanas) insisted on the acceptance of the scriptural authority of the Vedas (shabda-pramana) as the primary criterion for distinguishing a Hindu from a non-Hindu, as well as distinguishing overtly Hindu philosophical positions from non-Hindu ones. It has been the historically accepted standard that, if you accept the Vedas (and by extension Bhagavad Gita, Puranas, etc.) as your scriptural authority, and lived your life in accordance with the Dharmic principles of the Vedas, you are then a Hindu. Thus, an Indian who rejects the Veda is obviously not a Hindu. While an American, Russian, Indonesian or Indian who does accept the Veda obviously is a Hindu.

HINDUISM is only drama who has not force any body to accept Hinduism.

We know how the so-called 'dharma' tortured people branded as 'low-caste'.

Now you are giving false information. It is not dharma that tortured other castes but man's greed for power did it. But it is not an Indian phenomenon but observed in many parts of the world. Slavery in ancient times was one such torture.

Advice to Chopra

Mr Chopra, be as much anti hindu and anti christ as you feel fit for publicity - but not anti Mohammed. It would be the cheapest and quickest shortcut to your grave, via the fatwa route.

they touch RELIGION to get fame and name only
by rachita bholowalia on Apr 24, 2008 09:39 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

yes they touch RELIGION subjects only for fame and name.there might be exceptions but if u r known as a GURU as a professional then u must be
in a position to zero on controveries.a writer
can be controversial and same is for a religious
GURU but not a GURU like CHOPRA cannot go scot free as he is a professional.EVERY RELIGION IS FULL OF CONTROVERSIES AND OUR MEDIA ADD FIRE TO
SAME.THIS MEDIA GOT US FREEDOM IN 1947 AND NOW
HAVE MADE OUR COUNTRY TOTALLY POISONOUS.THIS IS
BECAUSE SO CALLED MEDIA GURUS R AVAILABLE IN PLENTY.why we do not first read the mind of followers of every religion and particularly of so called hindus.AS SUCH THERE IS NO RELIGION AS
HINDU.IT IS SANATAN DHARAM the most flexible
religion in the world and its main face is HINDUISM(INDUS CULTURE)--then again the flexibility of Hinduism allowed the formation of
various sects such as budhism jainism sikhism radhasoamis nirankaris aryasamajis and several
others.even MUSLIM MAZAARS r worshipped by this
Hinduism as their belief says-GOD IS OMNIPRESENT
then why CHOPRAS or Secular parties or Media dare to disturb Hinduism.Hinduism never preached
that their faith is the SUPREME.rather they leave it to a humanbeing to attain peace by accepting any prayer of GOD.YES IT IS ALSO TRUE
THAT WE CANNOT HAVE ANY FREEDOM TO DISTURB ANY
FAITH BY OUR OWN IDEAS,PICTURES,CONVERSIONS.IF
SECULAR PARTIES DID SO the result is the birth of RSS as someone is to save a nation RSS NEVER
ABUSED ANYONE-lalit kumar

Hinduism is a geographical definition and all the peoples living in India were "HINDUS" by Geographical area and I am Sure Indians (Hinduism) will become super power in the world. But If you mean "Hinduism" means the Idol worshipers, they should be called as VEDANTIST and not Hindus. You should read Vedas and other Hindu Scriptures with other comparative religions in the world and then you will understand which religion is going to die.

"I would make fun of them (the Hindu groups). I would say your faith is so weak that a comedy can offend you. I would then tell them, Your faith is not faith; it's a cover up for insecurity. Just because you are vegetarian and you dress like Hindus it doesn't mean you have strong faith." -- Deepak Chopra.
