In my opinion, If one follows Vedanta as way of life is a Hindu. Also if this is heavy to understand then this is more simpler: If you are not a Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jew, Buddhist and any other specific religion not mentioned, then you are you are a Hindu. Hinduism is a way and not a specific religion. In olden days people in India who did not follow a certain religion due to preachings or enforcement remained to be called as Hindus.
