how about a
by sameer reddy on Feb 24, 2009 03:00 AM  Permalink

yeah the famous jade goody is a chav who turned millionaire adn about to die. why the british director didn't make a movie of her real life, a cheap chav of criminal father and lowly daughter with a criminal boy friend , who made millions through a cheap subhuman program called big brother. Would he have got an award for that? Why indians are going gung ho about the awards? Would the blacks have allowed if the director had made a movie Nigger muthafucka. Shame on India.

JAI HO

It was a pleasant surprise. A.R.Rehman was a sure shot entry for the Oscars. Hats off to him and Gulzar. Gulzar has already won an Oscar bestowed by Millions of Indians for his Tele Serial Mirza Ghalib and his other momentous films. Hats off to Gulzar Sahab once again and JAI HO.

shamedog millionaire !
by ved prakash on Feb 24, 2009 12:28 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

to start with, the film getting awards as part of the bigger game plan by the west - to find the colossal indian market to consume another product - a bankrupt hollywood.just as sushmitas and ashwariyas suddenly got universe and world awards to make every indian woman buy revlons, loreals, channels;it's a marketing strategy to give employment to hollywood on a bigger scale.
if boyle had not directed the film,it would have got zilch.he has given the west what moves them to tears.very clever but poor artistic integrity. there is enough of it in indian cinema in the last seven decades, and perhaps better content and depiction.slumdog is an average film with average music , below average lyrics and a thin slice of indian poverty.it misses the complete specturm.
and finally are oscars any judge of the world art ? should they be give every year, because they have to be given ?
art is essentially the reflection of society with man in essence, the protaganist.
i am afraid the developed elite will never understand the poorly developed society and it can at best be shocked by it's sub-human status and be therefore 'entertained'!
slumdog lacks soul,an organic wholeness.

Excellent comment. I fully agree with you. When cosmetics companies needed India, they started giving miss world titles to indians and now oscars. Clearly this is a commercial ploy. This movie is a crap.

this is just so ridiculous that we are amused by ourselves being called a slum-dog. I was listening an interview with the director of this movie on BBC, and he told that all the protests in India are just because their movie is getting famous and actually does not use dog in a derogatory sense. Would he then please tell the viewers, what does slum-dog actually mean and why at all is it there in the name? Just because it is made by a gora director about poor Indian people, it is getting so much popularity? Why was there not even a single nomination to Tare Jameen Par or Lagaan? Don't British have got extremely poor people living in their home country who are pathetically crazy about playing lotto and hoping to earn a jackpot some day. Why don't they make a movie on that theme. Rehman might have gotten Oscar, which he is very much capable of, but why now??

India making an Statement
by atul dalal on Feb 23, 2009 10:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is really a great achievment. Indian Talents getting regconized and more over been awarded an Oscar Award, recreating an history. It is really making an statement to the World that Inidans are capable to reach any part of the World for their show of talent.

However, it also left the question behind that if the Movie Slumdog Millinoarie was made by Indian Director.

There were 3 Indian Movies reached Oscar - MotherInida, Salam Bombay and Lagaan.

Mother India - is an great movie.
Salam Bombay - Was the again made on poor boy in Mumbai
Lagaan - Has the same Music Director score the music but didnt pick up for the best music for the movie.

We are yet few steps away to be get awarded for an movie that is completely made by Indians

Mohabbat Zindabad...Bharat Zindabad
by Anjan Seal on Feb 23, 2009 10:03 PM  Permalink

Why nobody is is talking of the really sweet love story. In spite of all the poverty shown in the film, the love aspect stands out and really hits all hearts. I think the love story that has blossomed in poverty has brought out the human aspect in all who watched Slumdog and gave it the place where it is now. It is a very sweet and strong love story which hit the 'sweet spot' between ugly and beautiful. Accolades to Danny Boyle for making love win in raw struggle and showcasing the determination that lies in an Indian's mind who may even be a 'Slumdog' but will move mountains to achieve a true goal.

AR Rehman's contribution to creating the appropriate music in context to the movies theme is speaks of his sheer genius.

So its Zindabad, Zindabad aye Mohabbat Zindabad...Bharat Zindabad.

We will teach the world the meaning of Love and Peace.

Marketing again
by Shravanuniversan on Feb 23, 2009 09:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Slumdug millionaire is normal bollywood masala movie, though the plot and screenplay is too good, casting and acting is good, one would not be comfortable in scenes where Irfaan talks to saurabh shukla in English. In which police station, anywhere in india an inspector and constable talks in English?Does not look like artificial?this is what they call marketing technique. if the movie was made in hindi, it could be eligible only in one category-foreign language.
Mel Gibson did that in Passion of Christ- while the whole movie is in Aramic with english subtitles.
The scene where they boy(jamal malik) jumps into the open toilet & with full of shit he comes to meet Bachan. Tell me onething- Are indians so fanatic about movie stars?i don't think so. Not even Indian-no one in this world will dare to do this kind of act.
Being a nice human being bachan(in the movie) should have asked to wash the kid first rather than signing an autograph
and if not for Danny Boyle, it it has been done by entire bollywood or any indian team, they would have not even shown any interest.
i believe its the same strategy how sushmitha and aishwarya won world beauty titles. US wants to enter India in a large scale manner(already Warner brother are here) and they see lot of potential and money in Indian market. Also they are in global economic meltdown which is affecting their movies too. That is the reason for 8/9 oscars for SM?

Sharavan, you are bang on target! Most of us idiotic indians are unable to see the evil intentions of the western world to confer these awards on a so called 'indian' cinema. Even the award confered on ARR was not for the quality of his work, but happened as a part of the bigger plot to award SM for ulterior motives.

It is the marketing strategy that once again the gullible Indians have been entrapped!
It is indeed unfortunate that the dog of a slunm is being adored while the cow is being slaughtered!
A.R.Rahman is not a music director at all.He is a musician only.Since the number of English medium schools have increased leaps & bounds in the last twenty years so the taste, as Lord Machaley had predicted, has changed in India. Moreover the west understands such shallow notes only so it went crazy.
If A.R.Rahman is a music director then what are Shankar-Jaykishan,Laxmikant-Pyarelal,Madanmohan,Naushad,S.D.Barman,Roushan,Ravi,O.P.Naiyyar,Kalyanji-Anandji,Hemant Kumar,Salil Choudhury etc.?
On technical side, yes,Oscar stands for a grade but regarding music it can not be the yardstick !

you have left Ilayaraja in the list..the difference between all above said and Rahman is - They used native indian musical instruments and did not incline to Western.. but rahaman took a road which was less travelled..he gave importance to chorus, words without any meaning but catchy, used all the electronic instruments he had-which is followed same in Western music..thats why he is able to achieve the oscars in just 17 years. This is his pinnacle..he do not have anything to prove to anyone though
