To make a film on St. Thomas, the producers will have to seriously and studiously go deep into the matter and do proper reasearch. It should not be based on technical gimmickry, as has been done in the cases of Shivaji and Dasavatharam. Except for technical brilliance, will they come near such great mastgerpieces like Gone With the Wind, Gandhi, Ben Hur, Ten Commandments, Doctor Zhivago, some of our old classics in Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam (even new films) and many such films in various languages. Sure, Kamal, Rajnikanth etc. are good actors. But their new films have more of technical gimmickry than good stories. See, what has Rajini done with the Tamil version of two beautiful Malayalam films (Chandramukhi and Kuselan in Tamil) by botching them up. Art should be treated very delicately, gentlemen. It is surprising to note that the new film was launched for production by a man who proudly calls himself an atheist! His opposition may be only towards Hindu gods. That explains why he is so much intent on implementing the Sethusamudram project!!!

Going by your argument, Kamalahasan should never portray a character who is religious and Mamootty should never be playing a thief as he is a law-graduate. An actor whatever his real-life beliefs are, should be able to portray any character with conviction. That is why they are called actors.

Rahman whose original name was Dileep is the son of music director R.K.Shekar, the malayalam music composer of the 60s and 70s who died when Rahman (then Dileep) was just 9 years old. But like MGR and P.Vasu, he too lived most of his live in Chennai. But there is no running away from the fact that Rahman too is a Malayali. Kamal, though a Tamilian, considers himself the son of Kerala too, as his formative years were spent choreographing and acting in Malayalam films. His athesim and left-leanings can be traced to this connection.

It is a feeling of paranoia that you have...
Nobody is gonna take Tamilnadu away... and the fact remains that TN is full of shit...
I am from TN, that does not mean that TN is full of honest chaps and intelligent folks... You picked on his "REddy" tag and dragged the linguistic demarcation here...
Can a guy from a state have an opinion on an issue concerning another state???
If you start to drill down, then state - cities - streets - houses (families) - individuals... so, we all need to be fair and square before we can comment on anybody???

Ohh my god these guys r insane. when he bad mouthed abt rama all were silent. Whatever this old blind man does is accepted by TN people. i think again jayalalitha has come to power and sqqeeze his bbbaalllsss
I don't understand why there is such a frustration among people knowing that Kamal and Rajni is acting in a film based on the life story of St Thomas. Why do we Indians have the attitude of seeing double eye in everything. They are actors and can act in any film and as anybody. Its up to the people to accept or not when the film releases. Why should people equate this to religon. Cinema has nothing to do with religion and the people acting there are just characters. In fact, we should be hoping that their coming together make a good film so that people recognise their art all over the world.

it is not frustration it is called jealousy .. they only need northies and hindi to be recognised by international market.. if tamil is recognized in international market they cant digest .. too much of blood pouring from ass is bad for health ..

The Thomas who came to India, was NOT actually the Apostle but a trader called Thomas of Canaan! If it had actually been the Apostle, then he would have been more than 90 years old when he landed in India!! He would have been a doddering old man and would have never been able to travel across south india! And it was Thomas the trader from Canaan who actually got killed by a local chieftain because of business rivalry. Thats why the so called tomb of St.Thomas or more correctly Thomas of Canaan(the body was removed from Chennai & buried in Italy/France) is never ever venerated in the West! This is another attempt by the Vatican Mafia to convert the people of India.
RE:Why such a hue & cry
by Joel on Jul 08, 2008 11:17 PM Permalink
Well said, the vatican mafia's attempt to convert people of india.
Bt apostle thomas had alrdy begun spreading the gospel way b/f the vatican surfaced. The romans detested early christianity and also judaism, they wer no converts until whn roman people began to accept the beliefs slowly thru apostle paul.
So it does make sense since only the apostles and people who ar trained by the 12 disciples barring judas the betrayer can only go spread the gospel.
It can also be true tht apostle thomas could hav come to india, since the route to india ws already establishd by arabs and king solomon. Also jews had alrdy been exiled to parts of india i.e kerala, goa.
Bt the doubt lies is why ther ar few followers of apostle thomas and also judaism. Is it b/c of the portugese empire who had mixed xianity w/politics n b.c of tht the beliefs of xianity were distorted and catholicsm ws founded.
Evn portugese empires have been found the reason why jews population ws diminshd, b.c of faith clashes. Also tht could be the answr since catholcism(political xianity) has the been the reason why apostle thomas and its first followers ar not be found.

It is an individual's prerogative to view as he deems fit... isn't it? otherwise, we would not have these stupid movies in the first place...
"The film will be on the lines of Hollywood classics like The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur".
Do they even know what they are talking about. Yeah, may be for illiterate followers of Kamal and Rajni, this film may be in hollywood lines. Otherwise, I can tell you that it would suck big time, like Sivaji and Dasavatharam. SO MUCH MONEY - NO SUBSTANCE.

I want my original kamal back, who acted in films like Apoorva ragangal, Sagarasangamam.
I can challenge my other friends here that Kamal and Vikram are the only people who can deliver in our industry. Who's this Vijay? Who's Rajnikanth? Send him back to Karnataka. He won't support us for Cauvery water anyways.
