The name Hogenakal is derived from Kannada. When the water falls on the rocks it appears as if smoke is emanating from the rocks because of the force of the water. Hoge in Kannada means smoke and Kal means rock thus giving the name Hogenakal aptly to the place.[1]

"Hogenakal" is derived from Tamil. Most of the Tamil words staring with consonent 'P' starts with 'H' in the Kannada derivatives. This much is part of Tamil/ Kannada etymology.
HOGE's origin POGE/POHAI/Pugai in various forms of spoken/written tamil. Similarly "KAL" means rock in Tamil.
Anyway the origin of the word hardly matters here. What is needed is an equitable solution to the problem between the neighbors..

BTW Hoge-Na-Kal in Bengali means that you wouldn't be going to the loo tomorrow! I think that is the biggest problem whe we talk about water scarcity!

Going by your logic, the word "India" was coined by Britishers. Does that mean they get automatic rights over this country?
Rajini speech is nothing wrong and also he is clarified whether it is tamil or kannadians who is troubling the peace should be penalized but due to Political Game Tamilnadu CM taking the people of the states for Granted.
If he taken this decision one day before lot of things can be avoided and as a leader he should not gone back.

Rajni has his followers both in Karnatka and Taminadu.As a leader he shall not say anything which will incite violence.There is no issue of belonging to a particular community but we have lost saner voices who will tell people that we are INDIANS first.JAI HIND
Now our politcians are not interested in maintaining or developing India. Luckily we have progressed in spite of politicians, except Rajiv that other countries like U.S. and in course of time Pakistan,China and even gulf countries will like a progressive India so that they can invest and do business. Then our dirty politicians will act under their instructions as happened in 1991 under world bank.
Kannadigas should realize fast that they have no place if they are broadminded. We should be like the maratis or tamils who fight for their cause. I was in mumbai(with lot of kannadigas living there) recently and shocked to see no kannada channel in the TVs. The room boy in the hotel did not even understand when I asked him for kannada channel. Same is the case in other states too(northern states included). Whereas in K'taka you can see more other language channels than kannada. This is the brotherhood others are showing for us. And I am seeing people from all these states are teaching K'taka about harmony. What a joke! In K'taka we learn others language to make them comfortable. In return, this is what we are getting back!! Only when there is some violence, other states will listen to our problem, otherwise they ignore us. What a world! There is no room for nicety, harmony.

Don't be an a$$. Think like an Indian. I am a Tamilian and I haven't found any difference in the way I am treated in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu. Let us concentrate on our shared similarities than the differences.
