RE:NRT - non resident tamils

hello sheuli bose, the article is talking abt another thing.. not abt LTTE and tamils.. If you loose your mind get admit in any hospital
A general statement about discussion boards content: After being witness to north v/s south fights on the rediff discussion board, i am not surprised why India had a history like it did. Any 2-bit foreigner came here and 'conquered' it and plundered it. If well educated people (people on the web have atleast basic education) can show this behavior, i can understand how easy it would have been a few centuries ago when levels of education was not so high. To make ourselves look good, we like to pull other people down.
I have travelled and met a lot of americans in the recent few years. They usually put others on a pedestral (qualify them as experts) and prove that they are better than the experts which is a more positive way in the overall context.
I know that my statement is likely to be critized and even censured but i think all of us need to think on the basic question: How do we treat our fellow citizens?

rightly said. and this is one of the many reasons why Indians doesn't want to live in India. there is a lot of hatred, racism and conflict within different communities in India than any other parts of the world. With this kind of mentality, within few years India will be divided into two. Northern India and Southern India.. great going folks.. keep it up!

somehow I do not agree with this. May be in discussion board people are talking about south and north, provoked by the articles in which they emphasis south and north. this is mainly because the media itself is creating the devide. as otherwise, I strongly believe that, there is hardly any racism or hatred and conflict amongst Indians within India or elsewhere. This is very much evident in big private corporations, IT industry, international organizations where people from all over India are employed and working together without any conflict of cast, creed, religion and region. If the media changes their attitude of giving specific mention of the region, there would not be even a discussion on this. We don't discuss about our Mayor, collector, PM, FM, President, and many high dignitories and make an issue out of it. My reqeust to affluent and educated readers is not to indulge in such discussion - if someone mentions about a region/cast or creed, don't even reply to such message - let us try to alienate these at the root level itself.

Majority of Indian population is not Corporate staff or IT graduate. The comment is about India as general. there are people, like me and you and him.. who doesn't care what color they are or what language they speak, but certainly there are a hell lot of others who take it as a big issue. and, what is happening right now in rediff discussion board is a good example for that. don't be a hypocrite. the life in the corporate office is not the real world. :)

Anusha - I think you are mostly right. there is only thing i will disagree upon. the media. For eg: this article is about entry to Cannes. There was nothing that suggested a north-south divide but look at the message boards. the message board has become a north-south defense and offense board
it is not to do with the media but something deeper within us

The most valuable comment I ever saw on the message board. U long live bro!.....PEOPLE LEARN TO RESPECT FELLOW CITIZENS!!........
Agreed that the superstar from South was Bus Conductor. This will be the case for any other star. Here the stars are not born unlike in North where if you are a son or daughter of an actor/actress, you are made a star regardless of whether he/she has talent. But in South all the stars became stars not overnight but only through hard work. Wonder what the North Indian so called 'stars' were doing before they entered the film industry !!!

do u know where shahrukh came from, where amitabh came from where akshaye kumar came from, where preity zinta came from, where madhuri dixit ccame from.. i m not denying the fact that many stars are born n reborn only coz of family.. but dont give a sweeping statement like North - South.. I also stay in Chennai n know all the stars n their family connections in Tollywood.. Grow up n behave like a mature responsible fellow...Loving n admiring your culture, language n traditions is a very good virtue but definitely not to be done by despising others.. Good luck buddy...

Seeing some of these posts looks like the northern part of our country will never understand that Hindi is NOT a national language - only the language spoken by a majority of the impoverished part of our country.

sorry friend... go and check your fact... Hindi is our national language....
It is you who need to check the fact. The fact is that India does not have a National Language. So - you would understand that Hindi is not our national language. As a true patriot please read our constitution first and then come here and advice others.

Check Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_languages_of_India
"Neither the constitution nor the laws of India accord the status of "National Language" to any language in India[1]. Indian law states that no language will be made the National Language unless and until all the constituent states of the Union of India accept it. Out of the 28 states and 7 union territories, only 10 states and 3 union territories have Hindi as the principal official language."

Constituion of india has recognized 15 languages as its languages. It has not given any status such as a national language to HINDI.We south indians are doing great in every field an you north indians come to south india for greener pastures because you have nothing there.
infact i agree with south Indians... now bollywood is only a starcast drama... people do not apreciate good movies... they apreciate stars... shahrukh can be hit in any crapy movie... i have never seen any inspiring movie from shahrukh... except those stupid love stories and crying .... same a witwik... nobody from bollywood apreciate movies like water, black friday... where actors have done awsome job.... but yeah hey they dont have sallu or shahrukh so they are not hit... same with OMKARA... awsome acting man... but they didnt get appreciated... where as ritwik gets best actor award for stupid crap dhoom 2.... for horrible acting..... i say 99% of bollywood movies are crap and rest 1% do not get appreciated
