Not the first real Portmanteau film!
by Ajith Kumar on May 01, 2006 04:34 AM  Permalink

It's a shame that in India where we produce about 1100 films a year, people are only aware of Hindi movies. There are a lot of good movies made elsewhere in the country as well & not just in Hindi. I would say that DMH is not the first Portmanteau film in India.

This was achieved over a decade back with "Manichitrathazhu" (1994), an excellent Malayalam movie which had Fazil as the main director and directors like Sibi Malayil, Priyadarshan, Siddique and Lal doing portions of the movie. It was a great movie that is still interesting if you watch it today.

I am not a professional critic or a movie historian but an ardent fan of good, meaningful cinema (& hence don't bother to watch Bollywood junk). I might be wrong in saying that "Manichitrathazhu" is the first one but am definitely right in saying that DMH is not the first. It is time that India wakes up to the fact that there are better things beyond Bollywood & Hindi movies.

Cheers,

Ajith.

Relax guys..

Watch this movie for what it is supposed to be: a ride full of fun and thrills!

No movie can genuinely scare you, cause after all it is only a movie!! A movie can only thrill you and entertain you. Darna Zaroori Hai does exactly that!

Enjoy it for what it really is: a great example of an unconventional Bollywood film, which at least gives you some fresh stories and great acting.

I wasnt scared watching this movie either. I am a big horror film buff and Ive seen most horror movies out there. But I still liked Darna Zaroori Hai cause it dares to be different inspite of all the brickbat from conventional-film lovers!

Bravo, RGV! Keep up the good work!

Boring movie
by Shantanu on Apr 30, 2006 01:09 PM  Permalink

This movie of RGV casting many big stars is really not worth watching ... there was no element of fear ...only hisses and loud noises ... it could not have been worse.Seeing Big B behaving like an insane professor who is scared by the haunted image of a cap-wearing guy is the last thing we could ask for.

I think RGV should gather experience from Ramsay brothers at least before he attempts doing such things on screen.Even Darna mana Hai was one shade better than this I believe
