current infation begotten by hype
by kaka on May 20, 2008 12:04 PM  Permalink

Insufficient supply, rising incomes etc. are only part of the reason. The real reason is speculation following the mild fear created by diversion of food to fuel and reports of droughts. Such speculation created undue panic causing export curbs which worsened the situation a whole lot more. Only way to take care of this is the whole world coming together and working hand in hand in resolving the situation rather than advocating the 'us vs them' mentality which will only further degrade the issue

INFLATION
by R K on May 20, 2008 09:53 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Comparing India with low lying poor and unstable countries is only an effort by the Govt of India to justify "rising prices in India". Shame. Do something to check prices in India only.

The Srilanka Banana Republic hides all its inflation in the name of civil war to fool the world. The govertment sponsored a budget airline called Mihin Lanka and it swaloowed Rs.3.2 billion loss in 12 months and now defuct without a single piece of asset.Yet they kept printing money to keep the airline alive, but the board of directors satisfied with their hunt in 12 months, decided not to loot anymore.

The Real Reasons of Rising Prices
by Vishwamitra Singh on May 20, 2008 06:48 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The real reasons for inflation and rising prices has never been said by anyone. UPA govt is misleading the nation. Due to nounting crude prices in US due to more consumption in war jones, all western country has deployed their surplus food stocks for production of bio-fuels. Consequently there is a increased food demand in west Asia. Indian politician through there shadow companies are busy exporting food to gulf contries to earn more. Moreover, PDS grains have been siphoned off illegally through Daman and Diu. UPA govt never bothered to ban export of food till very late and still they are exporting on one pretext or other. Therefore the food prices and other prices has gone up.
UPA is amassing wealth for next general election. First they rigged stock market and now the food prices. To defame the BJP ruled states they conducted raids and found food grains of hoarders in FCI godowns. But someone should ask them that FCI is the Central Govt baby. What action they have taken against them. And moreover, it is Congress people who with the help of their Minister got the food grain stocked in FCI godowns

Low Agriculture production is the problem of state governments not the central government.
Why Punjab and Haryana alone are able to produce 60% of India wheat, Rice and vegetables and and other states can't.Punjab and Haryana are the most united and technological advance states in Agriculture field in India.
And other states don't have political stability and will to accept new technology.

i dont understand what is it about rivers and monsoon. in todays time even the desert countries are able to grow crops.instead of investing so huge in missiles ,a little amount can be invested in agriculture development. and subsidies and farm loan shuld only be given to co-operative farming, where by a huge number of farmers will pool there land together .it will result in more yield less cost and prosperity.

Thanks ...... Rediff !
by Tushar Sakhalkar on May 20, 2008 06:03 AM  Permalink

My sincere thanks to Rediff to let us know that UPA has failed to take India among the list of prominent nations like Myanmar, Afganistan, Congo, Zimbabwe and some never heard nations.
However, I can assure all ardent readers of Rediff that the sincere efforts of our FM, PM and Super PM will not stop till we achieve the glorious nominatin to this list.
I also sincerely thank Rediff for supporting my lovable UPA Govt. by putting this up so as to gloss over the fact that figures of Indian inflation have surpassed those during NDA regime.
Thanks Rediff. Long Live UPA. Long live horaders.

Our taxation System
by Shiv Sehgal on May 19, 2008 09:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Our taxation system is conducive to capitalism. A salary earner with over Rs 1.5L per year has to pay taxes, whereas an industrialist with a few crores as dividend income and another few crores from long term capital gains from exchange traded shares does not have to pay any income tax! A common man with a few thousand rupess per year from dividends gets heavenly feeling when FM makes these tax free! A poor man does not have money to invest in shares and middle class which is the vote bank gets happy with this not realising that it is aimed at the super rich to get richer. Salary of even Ambani gets taxed but not the income froom dividends. No wonder India is progressing with higher and higher number of billionaires!

Support CPM to turn this country into a poverty stricken nation like they did to West Bengal. Before seventies, Kolkata was known as Manchest. of India lush with activities, industry and business and enterprizing youth usually looked towards Kolkata rather than anyother city. Now where does Kolkata stands? More over Communism is not fitting into our god fearing and democratic culture. It is imported from China/Russia where it has failed miserably. In Communism only political leaders enjoy freedom while the common man stands in long long ques of ration shops etc and in the evening the common man feels proud having acquired the day's ration. He feels more proud if somehow he is able to acquire some clothes and bicycle.

Mr. Shiv sehgal i think you need to study taxation again...even though there is no long term capital gain it is consider your income and you need to pay income tax on it its diff story that these people dont pay and hide income or pay it dept for waiving that.......but then you can also invest in same way and gain tax free income

Hemant, pls dont speak without knowledge of the subject. If LTCG is free of taxation, its free of taxation. And saving tax by investment is only to a limited extent of abt 1 lac, so what abt a person who earns 5 lac in salary and a person who earns 10 lacs in LTCG, the rich keep on getting richer and the salaried middle class keeps sustaining the government by paying taxes. If we consider individuals, the salaried class is the most disadvantaged one, perhaps because they are not the votebank and shy away from politics and dont have any rep[resentation in politics.
