The fact which were mention in the article is not now a days practice .this was practiced even before the boom arrived in India. One fine example is myself.I joined a Govt.undertaking company as a System Engineer of Calcutta based company in 1990.My job was Installation,Commissioning and Maintenance of Switching Systems. Most of the time I toured various part of India my work schedule was nothing to do with 9 to 6 like, Most of the time I have to work on site from 9 AM to 10 PM . When the company was running into loss . they called me to HQ and directed me to go to factory and instructed me to the job which were not mention in the joining letter. After sometime I tried to cope up with those official finally I resigned that job.The fact is that they try to compel you resign by every means. They want to save their skin other may go to gutter that is none of their business.

india especially urban people are forgetting the indian culture and blindly accepting Western culture(wihout knowing the severe long term illeffects of doing the same) as a way to move ahead and gain easy acceptance both within and outside the country.
No-one can blame employers as India is a democracy and employers cannot tie employees to their chairs. (Employees opted these jobs as they couldn't find others)! Today's generation should be thankful that they are at least getting Jobs. Once they have jobs, gradually they can plan for future career growth or career shift. Ask your parents, even with graduation, how long it took them to get a job. What could ur parents buy with their first few months' salaries? 4 sets of clothes? Be thankful to what you have and build ur life from there.

You don't have a right attitude. You have a mindset of "be happy where you are" or "Count your blessings". For someone who is not happy with his/her job your advise would be, "look at the people who don't get 2 square meals a day". If you are miserbale, you will always find someone who is in a more misrable situation than you are. Unless you complain, unless you take steps to correct what you feel is wrong nothing will happen. Complacency will kill your career. Being unsatisfied where you are in your career, prompts you to make progress and get ahead in your life.

You read me wrong. I said "Once they have jobs, gradually they can plan for future career growth or career shift." Being unsatisfied is not the best way to trigger ur career growth!
I find people should be more knowledgeable in order to bag suitable roles in any company. The qualifications and the institutes do play a matter when it comes to jobs as employers also want good people to join them without putting their resources on strain. Most of the time it is students who don't put the efforts in order to secure a right job. They have access to good books, knowledge but ulimately when results come they dont seem to fare well and then the companies don't accept them too.
Also one should not expect to get a manager's role if one does an MBA from a 2nd rung B-school as companies only preserve such roles for the elite B-schools,but all is not bad here if you are more informed on the roles and bonds a company has for the employees.
I am sure if bonds r not acceptable in Courts of India then one should not accept them also. One can file PIL if companies are still favouring employment bonds.
Every employer - mentions the kind of job role that would be expected out of the person - MBA or not during the interview or while giving the offer. Smita here is an MBA - perfectly capable of understanding what job entails before joining the company. What is she complaining about ?. Variable incentives are a part and parcel of the sales job.... They are given for achieving sales target...If a well educated management graduate cannot understand all these - It is a telling state of affairs about the quality of people who are MBAs. YOu start at the rock bottom... even if you are an MBA.
An management degree is not a automatic ticket to plush cabin. You are only advancing towards it more quickly than others who are not MBAs. The job still has to be done - you have accepted it with a clear mind and for which you get paid good salary. Because it is a rotten job which requires to conquer boredom / routine - you get the kind of fantastic pay-packet.
About late sitting - organizations have started having shift or flexi timings to combat this problem. You sit for hours when you can be most productive. Habitual late sitters are actually not encouraged in corporate setup. If they are - HR normally moves to find out the reason and address it.

when a fresher passes out of a college he/she is not given on the job training. so he needs to do all sorts of jobs at work. so when a person joins a organisation don't expect a air condn cabin and a servent to serve you. you need to be proactive in ur approach as to get more experience in the job and i'm sure as you grow in your job you'll be doing the same thing to your juniors. this is only to make them learn but not to harass. anyone comes out of college needs to get some experience at work so as to grow further. so when you take a job prepare for everything initially and you'll learn with the time how to go with ur work.

Almost all big companies ( particularly BIRLAS and RELIANCE ) have a no-peon culture. In the name of grooming up young engineers/management trainees, the Banks, and manufacturing company big bosses, in fact 'COMMAND' these trainees to do all sorts of jobs. I am an IT consultant in US, who worked in Birlas for 3 years, and experienced the same. Due to a financial constraint, I could not leave the job, and despite several complaints to HR, was asked to do, as 'WHAT MY BOSS SAYS' Also, as I was under a bond for 3 years, I could not leave the company.
After leaving Birlas and joining IT consultancy, I realised the difference in work culture. My reasons. 1. OLD MANAGERS, with OLD HABITS, ignorant of new technology, and methods. Inherently, they are quite afraid of the young blood, and so they form a nexus at top ( take the VP's or GM's nexus of BIRLAS or RELIANCE ). They systematically terrorise the youngsters, and break the confidence. I'm an manager now, and I've vowed never to let my subbordinate down..EVER. 2. Lack of transperency in HR policies, and appraisal system. In certain cases, the MBA/Engr. is simply given his appraisal and increement percentage, rather than any career/expectation discussion. (Lack of time is the main reason cited..Faltoo kaam mein time mat vaste karo approach). 3.Banking/Insurance are growing at a much faster rate, than they can recruit quality. So, to reduce workload, the mgrs dump the work on existing quality staff without sparing a thought

No, I don't agree with you. The interviewers do not have any idea as to where( which department) the candidate will be working. They ask general questions in interviews. They just make sure whether you have a right aptitude. As an engineer, I have experienced this. Companies usually have a quota of grduates to be hired for a year. They(HR Dept.)don't have any idea as to the actual number of garduates needed for each department. HR does not have any idea about the duties and responsibilities of each job in each department. HR department just conducts interviews. After a candidate joins a company he/she is asked to work for a department which has put in a request for fresh graduates. I know this because my niece works for an HR department of a reputed company. In many IT companies, new hires are on the banch for more than a year. In many companies they are asked to do data entry just to give them some kind of work and keep them occupied. This is reality. I have seen many computer science graduates doing a job of a secretary. Their job is to send e-mails to clients, take notes during meetings, ask project members about their vacation plans etc. This happens in India and this happens in the USA too. I know someone who quit the project I was working on because he was doing a job of a secretary and he was promised that he would be working as a JAVA developer in his interview.
an MBA grad shd be proactive enough to knw what his/her job roles are at the time of joining..am sure she wd have blindly signed the joining form..who is responsible??

As a fresher if you try a lot and dont get anywhere and on the other side, when your father is paying the EMI, surly you will try to take these kind of option... I dont think that anybody will be in a position to wait for the right job.
Simply excellent and ground reality of our grwoing Indian economy. We will face its consequence with in decade on both social and economic life of every individual.
