Rural employment and budget
by ashok leyland on Mar 02, 2008 02:35 PM  Permalink

I'm surprised to hear that Rahul Gandhi was the first to request rural employment and a scheme to implement this! In India rural areas will neve never be allowed to develop because they are vote banks and keeping the masses ignorant and divided is the politicians' intent to ensure their longevity in power.
The ministry of rural develpoment is closely guarded against any sweeping reforms for this purpose. Any financial budgeting in this direction is simply a way to line the pockets of those who share this power and to blindside the public into thinking that the government is actually helping the uplift of the rural areas. Nothing could be further than the truth.

Budget 2008: Politics over economics
by sathyam guda on Mar 01, 2008 04:59 PM  Permalink

Continuation to my earlier message posted:Important test of this so called greatest budget 2008 is : Can the coming budgets/theme of budget/frame work of budget (assuming UPA comes to power in next elections and PC would be the FM)be just as the one that is present budget of PC. Is there any one to ask this question. Yes there would be ready made (Though detouring/camoflaged/evading type of stock answers that is playing with words/jargon/and financial concepts and theories). But one should ask these questions. Further can our FM say/assure that the ill effects of present budget will not be covered with merciless/inhuman budgets of coming years (If UPA comes to power again). People should ask this question. Infact there should be a law not allow any government to present a budget in election year. That willmay dis allow election budgets (Nut sure, politics can find a way to find soolution to that also). Unless this question is asked strongly, we can not be sure whether the present budget is politics over economics or economics over politics. General and average public will be able to analyse and assimilate the budget nuances to some extent but the trueness of budget qua;lity is how it gets reflectec in subsequent budgets?

Budget 2008: Politics over economics
by sathyam guda on Mar 01, 2008 04:40 PM  Permalink

Truth is that economics is politics. But, unfortunately, politics has been and is economics in our context. Big budgets does not mean good budgets. If that were true USA would boast of best budgets. Size of budget is normally directly proportion to the value of Money. For example AP state has a budget over one lakh crore. It is a budget that is mirror image of land costs in a village called Kokapet or Maheshwaram etc, and nothing more or nothing less. The measure of budget success shall be how much a person increased his savings and purchasing power at the market rates be it services or goods with out looking for subsidies. About poor, the poor shall be able to improve their living stadards with out compromising on health and education needs of their's. The effect of econonic and financial governace shall be such that the ability of market to determine best price to their (poor households) services and goods such that other economic process will leave scope to meaningfully saving by the poor which again means the surplus (Value of earnings and the consequent propoensity to save/ increased disposable income for poor). As of present poor are earning better rates of wage, but not good enough for any savings or even living in healthy environment.
