When I look at Mallus working in states other than Kerala, I feel proud about it. But at the same time I feel disgusted about the fact that their own homeland does not provide them similar opportunities. If opportunities did not exist in a state for many decades, we can safely conclude that government played a big role in depriving its own citizens with it. For instance it is sad to see politics being practiced even at a school level in Kerala and neither Govt. nor Educational Institutions are doing anything to limit it.
The only reason (apart from tourism and agricultural benefits) behind Kerala's prosperity despite of such odds is the love of Keraliites for their motherland. NRKs keep coming back and invest substantially on land and other properties. I can imagine a much better and prosperous Kerala if only the Govt. (atleast now) creates opportunities in all areas, like recently what they have shown in the field of IT.
The reason for prgress in Kerala was CPR (CP Ramaswamy Iyer) not communists. The Thiruvangur Samasthanam budgeted 15% of its revenue on education something that a socialist India or communists never can even dream of.
CPR's actions resulted in superior literacy rates in Kerala, new skills and also inculcated interest in fine arts.
It is a pity that CPR like most heros in India has not not the recognition that he deserves and charlatan communists and evangelical christians are walking away with credit for Kerala's social indices without any meaningful contribution from them.
The 1957 communist revolution under Achutha Menon government, known to be the best government Kerala ever had resulted in the distribution of land to the poor. This led to creation of a lot middle class in kerala. The eminent Kerala Leader EMS Namboothiripad, a Brahmin initiated the revolution. Though this resulted in the creation of some poor brahmin stories(as they lost lot of land and worked as pujaris in temple with low wages which we can see in some Priyadarshan movies like Aryan, Adwaitham etc...) but this was a major leap in Kerala history.
Apart from this, The christian missionories were more active in kerala and gave importance to the health and education.
This triggered the educated manpower and the 1990's rupee value depreciation only helped the NRI's of Kerala to grow further and send their hard earned income to kerala.
The Gulf helped Muslims to become rich and Kerala is one of the few state that has got one of the richest muslim community in India.
But ...its an old story ....Now ... Whatever government at present is of somewhat non functional...even if its Congress or Communist... So no comments on follwing the kerala model... it just evolved on that era ...
Any petty party can call a strike/harthal today in Kerala...

Kerala is a prosperous state because of the hard work of nonresident keralites and their love to their own blood, but commies made this kerala most corupted and dangerous state in every sense, today kerala is being ruled by a mafia,a dummy chief minister who is good for nothing, criminal politicians, dyfi and sfi, police with no moral actions, they have been controlled by criminals, their aim is to marxist the state in every possible ways, make the poor to become more poorest, but now due to media advantages poor realises these culprit politicians are the no.1 criminals...
You certainly dont need a PhD to say that the prosperity of Kerala is mainly due to the Inward remittance from NRKs. The Govts of Congress or Communists have nothing to do with this. Their contribution if at all is only destructive in nature.
Sheer consumerism has driven the growth of the state. With not many Industries and a failing Agrarian society only Money orders is sustaining the economy. As long as a George in California or a Kurup in France will always think of owning an Estate in Munnar or North Kerala and keeps remitting and that propels the so called growth in the Malluland.
Kerala seems to be doing well because part of their population is toiling outside the state. Kerala is hollow inside. I don't think this is a good way to solve the problem. Don't give credit to the Marxists or anybody else. Kerala is only afloat because of its Non resident Keralites.
Kerala depends on other states. If other states follow Kerala model, then it means people from other states should land up in Kerala. We are back to square one.
The growth as is clearly evident is clearly driven by services and not manfacturing growth. This might suit a state like kerala which has the capability to export its educated unemployed. But for the masses in the Bimaru states, it is manufacturing which has to drive growth. All of us know that manufacturing can never raise its head in kerala and West bengals which are the last bastions of the left.
Other states cannot blindly replicate the kerala model. What they need to replicate is ofcourse the provision of education healthcare and transportation in rural areas
The Kearala model seems to me the model for "average" survival. Malayalees will not feel the poverty of Biharis, and at the same time they cannot go up further to lead India. Most of them are graduates, but in the field of higher education, their institutions are not adequate!. They have plans to survive difficult situations, but have no plans to go high up to become big industrialists etc.
why Dr. Amarthya Sen always writes about Kerla and West Bengal comparing them with Bihar, and not much about Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Gujarat and other states?. If many Malayalees work in other states, that means those states provide them with some opportunity, isn't it?. Dr. Sen has severe socialist outlook which blinds his scientific temper. He can fool around with theories for some time, but the average Malayalee who is toiling it out in other states knows the truth!!
