by Karthikeyan on Jul 28, 2008 05:51 PM  Permalink

Nandan's speech of quoting population as a human capital is not fair at all.The more the capital we have ,the more people are going to suffer..

Nilekani on 6 things that changed India
by Sanjay Misra on Jun 18, 2008 06:42 AM  Permalink

Seems a bit wanting. We may add skewed govt policies on reservation, feebly paid scarce govt jobs, corruption which made people to work harder, computer revolution, new economic policy and globalisation just came at the right moment. Technology revolution is not visible, most of the time we are playing second fiddle. Most of the technologies are imported. Maturity in democracy is really recognizable. Still we are not doing much but patting our back too much by singing 'India Shining' songs. It is a small victory. We can not progress until unless infrastructure and urbanization are given a big facelift and meritocracy is recognized. Corruption has to go - that is a precondition. Our progress on these fronts is more wanting.

So It was not Nilkani but Phanish . thanks. No sir. I am very proud of Indian stuff. When I am saying some good things about Brits it is also implied only because of great Indian minds we absorbed the good from other civilization. Indian subcontinent have always not only tolerated but embraced good ideas from other faiths and culture.

I apologise. I am sorry. The above comment I made was due to Guruji's comment on the board. Now I remember it was Phanish who was responsible. Nilkeni was probably handling the law suit on behalf of Infosys.

These guys have guts to blabber in public with their own convoluted narrow view of India... Go 20 kms out of Bangalore on see how Kanakapura is... Thats what India is and not Bangalore... I can only pray that God helps our 'intelligent' to come out of such short sightedness... Just because you earned money that does not mean the country has become rich and a superpower... Hmmm... Like a true Hindu I would like to believe that 'this too shall pass'... and time will bring its next act on to stage...

And to all those idiots on this forum who say the Brits united India... I can only pray for your wellbeings as well inspite of such blasphamy you hold on India and its great ancient past... The Brits divided India and 'divide and rule' was their proud philosophy to rule any conquered land and they were not doing social service in India by uniting it... Dont be so dumb to believe in such theories...

That is what all conquerors did whether Moghuls or POrtuguese or Brits. No body said Brits did it out of goodness or golden heart. Moghuls built the Taj mahal out of tax payer's money. How many people got their thumbs cut. Definitely India ended up being one country because of them. Muslims dont like it because they feel bad they could not convert the whole nation like Muslim Rawanda or Sudan. If some of our founders did not get western education we wil lstill be small kingdoms fighting each other.

Of course we will be very proud idiots (in our mind) like the afgans who are eating human flesh to survive. If the afgans had been under the communist rule some improvement would have come to their country. Now Karzai can not do anything and Taliban is back. If that is a matter of great pride we would rather be idiots and slaves but to peole who can bring development.

India's vast population
by joseph purathur on Jun 16, 2008 09:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Whether it is population, goods or services, what matters really is its QUALITY. Look at India's dismal position on the UNDP's Human Index. We are close to the bottom! If we are to benefit from our human assets, we need to empower them, provide them the right environment to progress. When Indians go abroad, they do much better than they are able to when they are in India. In India, a majority of our people are divided on the basis of castes, regions, gender, etc. 'Unity in Diversity' remains a good slogan, but in practice, diversity remains a divisive force. Regionalism is on the rise. Some states have started talking about 'No Tax to the Centre' because they feel what they get from the Centre in return is less. They however forget the cost of our Defence establishment, Law & Order machinery, Monetary System management, etc. Regional Selfish interests overshadow 'natiionalism'. We need to develop a collective feeling for our country, and the common interest of its vast population. With the type of politicians we have, and their deep rooted nexus with the undersirables, only God can save Indians. So Help Us God.

At the same time taxation should have some representation. If some states feel they are neglected, that problem should be addressed. But what happens is if the center and state are from different parties then the state suffers when it comes to allocation of funds.

Correct and we drove them out with the help of Hitler( 2nd world war) after learning everything from them. That should be the spirit. There is no point in beleiving that we would have been so great if they did not rule us. We were little kingdoms like Marathas moghuls chalukyas pandys etc who were constatntly at war with each other. We will still be riding in bullock carts and human pulled carts as it is still happening in places which is not touched by progress. It is just plain vain glory to beleive we were so great and honey and milk were flowing in our rivers and gold was harvested in wheat fields. Sure Brits looted a lot just like the Moghuls but we got some thing out of them and got rid of Mullah rule. That must be the biggest grudge of some people like Abbas Rescued. That is his problem.

Dude.. the very concept of little kingdoms is essential to run any such big entity... The point is were they really fighting with each other or is that the version of history told by the Brits... I have every right to believe that this is a wrong version of history told by the brits and that there would have been a totally different India had there not been the brit invasion... Ancient India was an union just like today's EU. And then Muslims invaded and then the Brits came... We would have been a totally different lot and the world would have been a much better place to be if all these invasions had not happened and instead Indian concepts had become the order of the day... It might be a thought in vain but i have every right to have this thought! Gotta problem?

atul, what you think is really negative. Do you know the raiways, bank, radio all not for you and me, they created to loot the India. Everything was centred on just looting the wealth of india. Do you know they minted Tax by exporting the cotton to British and Again Tax for importing cloth !! Tax for Salt! which was taken from our land and charged by them !! Man dont get swayed by their coat and Topi !. We were so much rich, they took 200 years to empty us !! Do you know how many Great patriots sacrificed their family, property, life. How many kings lost in their divide and rule game? Just imagine only one, Jhansi Rani's scrifice. Man, Its too psychological problem to think their leftover is a good gift. Do you know there was time in British, craving men and woman to visit India to see the richness of India?? (Like now people in india craving to go abroad) Please read again the Indian History and think about our great grand fathers agony gone thru. You will come to know what was our glory and will come to know why we are now called poor !!

Population
by RAMESH MISHRA on Jun 15, 2008 02:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Growing population is burden for India. It requires food, medical, infrastructure which Govt is unable to provide at the rate of population is growing. It is burden for us.

I disagree with Mr. Nilekani that Gigantic human capital is assets. It may be beneficial to businessman like Mr. Nilekani.

In the past, country with very less population rules the world in past.

Today the growing business is reason for inflation and many problems that does not effect well to do people like Mr. Nilekani.

India was famous for its intelligent work force and was becoming a threat to the world. Could the World Super Powers accept India as a super power ... no-no.

Then what do they do? They fund the politicians and the results is for all to see.

Step 1: - Blunt IIT and IIM.
=>Increase the students, thus you have now 250 students per class.
=>Increase quota systems, thus the quality of students and competition amongst its students would drop by itself.

Step 2: - Make it the world's back-office.
=> Flood India's job market with KPO's and BPO's, thus India's youth is busy living like yuppies doing night shifts. They will also fast realise that they work like slaves and would get use to that life.
=>Mistreat the youth on International calls, thus they will have low self esteem and will feel low in Westerner's company. Thus Super powers would make themselves superior by default.

Step 3 - Hit India's financial capital Mumbai through regional parties
=> Regional parties are already ensuring that outsiders are mistreated. Thus force good people out.
=> Push jobs for marathi instead of Merit. If the political parties really cared, they would be teaching Marathi to be intelligent and well educated, rather than showing the world that Marathi youth are not capable of getting jobs on merit. This might force good companies to look outside Mumbai.

All aggressive or stupid replies to me are from Indians with low self esteem. Will not do anything in public, but will bark if somebody shows
