Dear Sharad: Someone has misplaced the PPF passbook. After she invested Rs. 70,000, last October, she suffered from a partial stroke which has left her with partial amnesia. She remembers having made the investment but doesn't remember where she has kept the passbook. Incidently, she lives alone, so no one can help. In filing of returns, is it mandatory to supply copy of the passbook? Pls. reply. thanks

No, it is not mandatory to submit any documents along with the Return. However, the IT authorities have right to ask for original documents if they have any doubts or otherwise.
Your friend can go ahead and fill up the Return showing PPF amount as Rs.70,000/- (if she remembers it correctly) and in the meantime an effort can be made to obtain a certificate from the bank where she has PPF account. The bank is obliged to give such certificate. In any case PPF Passbook is NOT accepted by IT authorities as proof because it can be fudged. mI hope it is clear.

Dear Sarad, I am salaried person. I start investing in shares through Demat Account (online) and invested Rs.70,000 and sold some shares (short term). i am in some confuse, should i have to add these profit in my salary. Is there any limit for excemption?
Persons filing tax returns please note: THough no annexures/attachments are to accompany your return some of the IT offices are insisting on the TDS (Form 16) alongwith the return. So please carry it with you and if the dept insists mention that u have handed over the original Form 16/16A on the acknowledgement and take the sign/stamp of the IT office

Sending money to parents for their expenses does not amount to gift. Even if it is considered gift, there is no gift tax on gifts given to close relatives like parents, children, spouses etc.
I did not file last year returns and yet to file this year's. Can I do both at once and if so will there be any change in the form. In both the years, I have nothing to get as there was TDS and my employer has paid the tax on my behalf.
i earned profit after selling various shares (holding peroid of 1 month and 1 year respectively).now for computing Income tax which rate is applicable 10% or 30% . BR//Abhinay
