This about accquistion of Rohm & Haas company by another company called Dow (major chemical companies). And in India they have tie-up with various reputed companies. They also into IT which works for some of the products for electronic devices like Nokia cell phones etc..
I wish Dow would invest in manufacturing than mere R&D so that chemical engineering would get more opportunities and india would turn around to be a sort after destination for chemical engineers.

we dont need any DOW in India buddy, unless they clean the mess they have already created. And what jobs are we talking here, jobs like Union carbide who left with their poisonous legacy still plaguing our motherland.

Dear, What Union Carbide did was an accident, else the plant was running safely since long. Go th Vapi, Ahmedabad, Tirupur and see for your self the amount of pollution (air, soil and water ) being done by small and medium Indian Companies. Bhopal tragedy did kill many people but these Indian companies have killed more people silently and continue to kill unabated. We do need technicall strong and advanced companies in India. Only our very own Pollution Control autoriries should be less corrupt and sincere to their duties.

It is true that we need high-tech companies, but Dow must pay the people killed in the Bhopal tragedy. You aren't a saint, if others are criminals. Accident at Union Carbide was due to a faulty design, and the owner of the plant is accountable. Remember the Uphaar Cinema tragedy?
Dow is entering India thro backdoor as they have taken over Union carbide but not ready to compensate the poor people of Bhopal who faced the Bhopal gas leak Indian people should unite to fight out Dow & not to allow such a company thro any takeover route. We should start a campaign against Dow so that they will atleast pay the compensatation to the Bhopal People DOW IS AGAINST HUMANITY BYCOT DOW

In their own country if such an event had happend they would have paid billions of $ even before they could declare bankruptcy....they needed to pay compensation as owners & Indian Govt should have pursued...this can't happen at a state level....do you know the IITans are campaigning not to join Dow & to boycott them in India....people need to know the histroy of Dow and how it has always run roughshod in developing countries

This Sabotage happned in 1983, at that time it was under MP Govt, by the name Union Carbide. Though they have given Rs.400 Million to the victims and part of which was paid by DOW. Dow was nowhere involved in the aciident, still they were kind enough to acquire it. You are noone to scapegoat someone else for the deed of your own ppl!

Oh really and how do u know if that amt is sufficient. Who the hell will clean the area, the ppl who were affected hyave been suffering since and what was kind abt Dow buying UC, do u think they were doing social service. And do u even know y and how DOW agreed to gave even that much, fyi DOW's initial stand was that we have bought UC and not its liabilities.
And for god sake if u dont know dont comment. It was not 1983 but Dec 1984. And 24 yrs isnt such a long time to forget the pain that the tragedy inflicted on our fellow countrymen.
So if u cant do anythg just keep quiet, atleast that wont make u look like an insensitive bufoon.

It's not Dow which the Indian people need to fight but our goverment & Supreme court. They paid what they were asked for. Problem was that they were asked for a sum which was quite low & this was arrived at by Supreme court.
I guess u dont know the history then. Dow bought Union Carbide and said that they are not responsible for any compensation to Bhopal victims as they have bought the company and not its liabilities. Now if u are fine with that excuse, well there's nothing more to talk about.
As far as govt is concerned, we all know how govt functions and blaming govt doesnt help. Many efforts have gone into this campaign to ensure that dow does not gain entry into India. Dow has been trying to enter into India using all sort of ways, this being the latest. I hope the ICJB and other agencies will take this into account as well and start a protest in this regard.

why do you exactly think it is their fault?...if you buy some factory where some worker died earlier..would you like to pay for that?...
the victims need to be compensated with equal effort from the actual culprits as well as the governments...
It happened due to poor security measures...so the inspecting agencies also have their share of guilt...
Guess you never bothered to worry about it or probably you dont even know about it. Wonder when we'll start putting national pride over financial gains.
"the ventures Rohm & Haas has entered into in India, would necessarily continue even after the acquisition by Dow"
So that one fine day we again have a Union carbide scenario when Dow will leave without paying any sort of compensation to the victims...
Mr. Gupta, Indians would have remebered you for better reasons than negotiating this deal :(

Mr.Gupta should be held responsible for any further incidents like Bhopal happens If Mr.Gupta is having some shame he should get the Bhopal people compensated thro DOW

You idiot, check out the article function of Rohm and Haas will keep it independently. This time Raj has clearly made a point that since I am an indian better you keep all old things in mind and do the business carefully!!
