could have avoided
by Nagarajan Maddineni on Jan 31, 2008 09:29 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We all know that variable pay meant to be varied based on company's performance. Because of various external factors including weak dollar, every IT company has taken a beating, agreed. TCS has shown a good Q3 results, with a decent net profit increase. As per the report, they fell short of 83 crores in their EVA. With the decent Q3 results, for such a massive company, i feel 83 crore is nothing. They shouldn't have let employees feel the beating, at least now. They could have sustained targets and taken additional cost cut measure before picking on the employees. Even after all of these, if they could't meet the targets, they could have very well limited the variable pay hike in Apr.

This could have avoided all the mess created. This will have negative impacts to their work force. They can't afford losing skilled work force due to this mess.

Just my thoughts.

Nice to hear .. but if you check it carefully .. variable is given on the basis employees individual performance. Every employee is not getting the same increment in variable amount .. :)

Other companies will do some other way I guess, actually plenty ways to cut down which can be hidden even with out knowledge to any one, really c't understand why TCS want to do some thing which will get negative attention and more risk of loosing resources for less cost cut in real

I dont agree with you, Everyone is paid to do a Jod within a fixed time frame.if they cant meet this basic minimum.they deserve a cut in their salary.
Let me tell you.
TATA Group is one of the Best Admired Business group in INDIA,
They were not into ant Business that was under Licence Raj.
they were and are into Core Business like iron and sdteel, Poweer Generation etc, Unlike the birlas , who thrived on Licence raj.
Today Except aditya birla group.all other MARWARI COMPANIES HAVE perished, According to Ms Swati piramal of Piramal group. The Marwaris colloctively lost in 1 night .all they created in 30 years.rather Tatas are growing and taking over Companies abroad
Tata's have the Best corporate Governance
TATAS always cares for their employes unkike Marwari companies.where to Come Up .u have to do Dirty work.....
I always admire the TATA GROUP

heart breaking
by reddyvari narayana babu on Jan 31, 2008 08:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is a heart breaking journey for all those who started with tcs and been there for a while. TCS is no doubt paying peanuts already and its very disappointing on their part to initiate such move in the industry as if they are already high payers. This wage cut could have been restricted to those who work in sales force and above middle level associates. Because lower level delivery side associates makes no difference be it loss making or gaining. This doesnt look like compensating the lesser profits. It looks like some initiative to break the bond of employees who can be defined rightly as "TCS FAMILY". So now its gone. The spirit of being TCSer is disturbed intentionally.

I'm not TCS employee or TCS admirer. However, I'd like to mention that atleast TCS is not laying-off employees. There are quite a few organizations who may be paying higher salaries than TCS does, but, do not think twice when it comes to firing employees.
