USA : Big mouth but dumb heads
by James Joyce on Jan 14, 2008 07:51 PM  Permalink

I remember a joke although it actually happened. Just want to share with all. "To write in space in ink/ball pens USA had spent $1 million, Russians used pensil instead"
Invention for the sake of invention or the famous saying as "Need is mother of invension". Thats what is lacking in US.

I read all the comments below... The summary is "They spoiled the environment and So, we have every right to spoil". I dont say NANO is a good innovation. But we should take every care, not to follow US.

Public transport system in india vs other countries
by shanmuga sundaram on Jan 14, 2008 07:41 PM  Permalink

Many countries have no public transport facility and most of the countries have very less public transport facility. Every bodies are traveling by own vehicle.
Those things will fit for them and their roads since their population is less.
Such a big country in India with a huge population, if every one start traveling by own cars the roads will be full.

The roads should be widened and the transport system should be improved. Every class people should be comfortable in taking public transport. That is an only way to escape

Can you calculate the amount of gas used in boilers for room heating in every house in Europe.
by Investor on Jan 14, 2008 07:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Guys, I am writing this because the day I came here in UK and I have noticed this. OK, I agree, without it, its not possible to survive. But the truth is simple. Every moment, every second the boilers [used for room heaters] in each house in UK keeps using galons of gas, non stop, for years. Amount of fuel used in boilers for keeping the rooms warm is unimaginable. There are millions of houses in entire Europe, now add USA and then add Canada. This is toooo much of energy when I see the kind of fuel we use in india or for that matter any country in so called third world for cooking food. I have seen us waiting for weeks for a gas cylinder, and women using wood to prepare food in rural india. And see here how the natural resources are being used . And yes, I am not saying this as waste but the energy is definately being used and the environment is definately spoiled. But non one can point them. Should we ask them all to shift to southern hemisphere?
I am sure there will be a day when our goverment brings in a law to provide cooking gas to every house in india and there will be an uproar in western world. Dont agree, its truth.

Adding to your comments Madhu... If Mr. Tata would not be taking a meagre profit of INR 4000/- per car to keep the price down it would be ok to the millions of critics.

Kudos Ratan tata. You made americans embarassed. Keep up the good work. Lets show them that we can thrash all their 'so called' predictions on environmental concerns.

Is it really us vs them?
by Santosh Gairola on Jan 14, 2008 07:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I don't disagree with the author completely, but I do feel that there is something missing. It is very easy to make thing us vs them. Perhaps things are more than that.

I am not sure about Daniel Esty, but as Friedman writes, "cheap copy of our worst habits". I won't disagree with that either. Here one has to highlight "Habits". That means going just half a kilometer galla-shop in car.
I hope it won't effect India so huge, given the oil prices.

I agree with some wrote somewhere else, something like, Tata can't be blamed, they have created a beautiful car. If any one has to be blamed for environment then it is govt, who failed to proved good public transport.

You cant blame India saying it has worst good public transport facility. Have you been to other countries where there are no public transport at all? The only problem is more percentage of people are dependant on Public transport system in India than in other developed countries. If you dont have a car over there, then it is tough to lead a life. So Govt is doing their best. And i believe Indian Public transport facility is the best when compared to other countries. any comments?
