Why chandigarh has lagged ? STPI was started way back in 97/98, IT park was started in 2001, even then why it lagged, and cities like PUNE raced far AHEAD. Does it have to do anything with the SO called "sarkari" and dull attitude of people there, remember its capital of two states, so many sarkari offices.

One reason I found after talking to the founder of small software firm in chandigarh: he said he is finding it difficult to get sincere technical staff. people are more interested in things like "going abroad", "fun & parties", "non-pressure tasks" and "in-office-romance". staff recruited locally fails to be competitive and sincere as compared with bangalore or rather kolkata.

Man it all depends on the administration or the Companies who set up their shops-Maybe when these are favorable they will set up business in Chandigahr and eligible people will come there to work.Chandigarh is a well planned city and I see no reason for it to succeed.

Chandigarh is legging behind because it don't have International Airport. And in North India Chandigarh is competing with cities like Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Feridabad,Ghaziabad etc which are very near to International Airport.
With South Indians is that they think they are superior becoz most of the top educational institutes are present in South India, like the IT destinations-But can anyone tell me after being so educated , why the Caste system is prevelent in South?Even an IITan would think about getting married to his caste(general case). This proves that degrees cant make you educated-Else Albert Eienstien would have been nothing.

Sorry-I told you about South-Considering South is filled with educated people. In South all people read science but believe in premitive practices-So there must be some fakeness in the education system.i mean science doesnt say that Human Sapience has any class.

You need to restart your education from LKG onwards. You are creating a "divide" in several ways here. Both caste and regional differences. I do not know whether it is your attitude or something to do with your region.

I agree Thomas. Casteism is prevalent in the south and has so much so that Christians and Muslims too practice it strictly. In fact the anti-brahminism movement has been turned on its head to bring-in other castes to dominate. Interestingly, while I know so many brahmins who have married Christians, my mudaliar and Nair friends will just not consider that option. Marriage is a personal option but what about even behaving normally and welcoming Dalits into homes, even that basic courtesy is missing in many urban so called rationalists. That the south has lesser caste problems than north is no excuse.
why are you all quoting single facts .like "this aspect is bigger than that".a single factor does not fuel growth.consider all factors , and most importantly get involved in the affairs of the city YOU love.lets be creative here.
