Elite B-Schools in India produce graduates who are often carried away by the ego that they are products of primier institutes. They lack the humbleness and modesty and being down to earth. As emotional thing is becoming more important in today's work culture, its also important that IIM or elite B-School graduates scale down their self-proclaimed status that arises out of the belief of being prodigies. However, though i have not studied in a B-School in India, being an employee of a non-elite business school while i was in India, i felt that the IIMs are an institute of repute and i have a lot of respect for its faculty members and their scholarly levels. I have attended a few training sessions of theirs and now when i am in overseas(Malaysia) working here as a lecturer , i find the same skills being taught here by people from western educated backgrounds or people directly from western institutions. It is the when i realise that Indian B-schools are quite good and are definitely of great standards. here in south east asia there is a trend of blindly following and believing in western education. This is becos they are weak in educational standards and quality. Thats not the case in India as we have really good institutes like our B-schools. However again, this does not mean that IIM walas or top B-School grads will not have normal down-to -earth attitudes. This is waht lacks in them as they are overwhelmed with the pride that they are exceptional. I teach as a visiting faculty the subject of Operations management-(Production & Service)to MBA students in one of the Central Universities in Delhi. Students have to make presentations in form of team to the entire class; this takes place every week.I give a case study with questions to a team consisting of 5-6 students. They have to make a presentation with a Group leader introducing the team, salient features of the case study, approach they take and why and the results of the questions. The presentation is suitably divided into portions where every team members have to contribute and make a part of the presentation .In the end , the group leader has to brief the differing opinions, conflict resolution and negotiations and influencing aspects and the consensus presentation. In the end there are questions asked from the class mates and I give my feedback. Each one of them has to email me seperately the presentation and his own opinion and contribution on any particular issue of the case honestly ,that differs from others opinion with justifications. I worked in the industry for 20 years and have been switching over to management academics, where I want to form the bridge between academia and industry. The need of the industry, need of the students to work as a project team- with its 3 parameters; cost, time & performance has to be emphasized in all MBA papers and the integration of a subject with other subjects, e.g operations with marketing and HR and finance has to be taught
i think rediff posted the same articale few days back...and like any IIM aspirant..i read it too... n now the time of comment...like the previous one... WHT THIS BULLSHIT IS....???

Yes...It sounds useless for the majority of us. However, for those to whom it matters, there something invaluable they have learned from an experienced man and that too for free.
There should be uniformity in Indian education system till PhD level. All these brand names like IIM, are employed only to create a divisive attitude among the professionals. This is not uncommon in India. Infact, this is the characteristic feature of India -- Divide.
How many innovations have come from these elite institutes? The open source free software foundation, which is dominated by college dropouts, produces 1000 innovations per day (not statistically speaking, but just literally -- I know an IIM grad will comment, if not clarified). How much do they charge? How much does an IIM grad charge? Since the world is dominated by dumbos like Ambani, Gates and Bush, these grads are having a good time.
Everything in the world (from education to law) should follow the open source model. Then these pseudo-intellects (including the author of this article) will be thrown out.

I am very happy with my job. That's why I can make these kinds of statements. A frustrated loser won't talk about open source model :)

where is the motivation dear in open source people ultimately get hitched to some good companies for getting a stable life isn't it. The maintenance becomes a huge problem. and moreover software can be open source but what about steel pharma and things how can you open source them. There is a different and characteristic dynamics of every industry they usually innovate and progress in their domain its useless to question their effort.

But there are these many things that can be turned in to open source model:
a) Education b) Consulatancy (legal, techinical, financial and medical) c) Media and Journalism (wikinews, youtube are great examples) d) Arts e) Scientific research f) Stock market g) and so on
May be, everything except the "manufacturing" you mention can be opensourced.

This is how cultural revolution in Mao's China began with bloody consequences.
Problem of so called educated in India is that they are undereducated. Talking without thinking through the consequences.
Hi folks , It will be incorrect on the part of people to point at IIM's students as rubbish since some of them have posted the same on the board.I have not studied from IIM or IIT but I do understand that a get level of study does impart some skills which someone may not get if he has not studied on that level. Some of the forum members have also posted about the english level of these IIM holders..yes I do agree that we learn and study a lot of english during school days but we study incorrect english .I remember my teachers in schools pronouncing lion as loin and violence and voilence which was later corrected .We need to raise the level of education and this can only be done by coming out of the tests that a student has to undergo while studying in a school. All craming and getting marks.Coming back to leadership and management quality i believe a good manager or leader should be a good human being first.A empathatic leader can bring about a change in the team and ofcourse a good team can only be made when there is a good leader and good team members as well.In the words of Donald trump a rotten team member should be sacked from the team and not be carried along because it may spoil the team spirit and team work .
