health insurance for elderly persons
by raghava panicker on Feb 03, 2008 03:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

As none of the insurance companies offer cover for persons aged over 70 years, and as existing diseases are not covered in any case, the health insurance route is not useful to take care of your parents.

My suggestion is that Banks or Financial Institutions provide long term loans to tax payers on liberal terms to be repaid in small monthly installments. The loan amount may be used to purchase single premium unit linked insurance policies with the rider that withdrawals from the policy can be made only to meet the medical expenses of dependent parents.

For senior citizens who have nobody to take care of them, the minimum the Govt should do is to refund taxes paid by them in the past to meet medical expenses.

Thank you for high lighting the cause of senior citizens who have none to take care. Govt may well think of "refunding" the income tax paid by them when they were earning towards an health insurance or medical expenses. Will FM device some scheme. HE and the govt.will have the full hearted Blessings of the elders.

Hmm

Overall, quite a dismal scenario in India.
Strange that the health cover is also liable for service tax.

In my company, we have to buy cover for parents - it is not automatically available. More so, for anybody except self, I have to dish out 20% of the costs. I find this extremely unfair. A good pointer was the monthly income schemes but how many people have 10 lakh rupees in invest in such schemes? These solutions mostly suited the already well-off. If I have 10 lakh, i would consider investing a part of it in equities. What good is a 7500 monthly income these days?

And mr bong writer - can you please cut down on the unnecessary names of family members and include more non-bong examples in future?

Shutup Kaushik. Just focus on the topic being discussed..don't add comments which are uneasy to hear or read for anyone in the current world in any country. People are all busy making a good living in this competitive world and don't care of group based similarities but no one will tolerate any bad comments on a particular group someone belongs to. So be professional to be successful.

Should we not scoff at such pitiable managaers of this nation?
by Gautam nil on Feb 03, 2008 01:23 AM  Permalink

Unless the cost of living is brought down by the Government, how can the largest populations of middle, lower and poor classes survive? Common man, as illustrated by the noted cartoonist, R.K.Laxman, is already dead due to his inability 1) to have an accommodation of his own, 2) to eat except vada pau, 3) to have medium clothing to his family, 4) to have legal assistance 5) to have reasonable medical assistance, 6) to cultivate within his readily available resources and 7) to have a reasonable monthly emoluments! Several people of our prestigious nation, on said steady economical growth unfortunately die and commit suicide every day, which perhaps don't go into Government statistics, that is capable of presenting growth rate steadily! Should we not laugh at such multi-graduated and foreign degreed managers at the helm of affairs of this poor nation?

chk the maximum age limit
by Raghavendra K on Feb 03, 2008 12:31 AM  Permalink

i found it very interesting thatsome companies end their insurance cover at 60years. the companies know that the chances of they having to pay up after 60 years is more and so stop the cover.
Please chk the age limit after which you cannot get the cover, if it is 60 years or 65, then stop this cover and go for nationalised insurance cover wherein they give cover in the form of renewals after 70 years

medical insurance
by Hariharan shankaran on Feb 02, 2008 01:01 PM  Permalink

Health Insurance should be separated from General Insurance and should be associated with Life Insurance. The incidence of medical {Hospitalisation only}premium will be a continuous payment alongwith the due date for Life Insurance premium due date without grace period. A separate Capital Sum Assured can be fixed for the Health Insurance coverage. The age prescription will be at the commencement and not every year as in the case of a Mediclaim insurance of General Insurance Companies. If life policy gets matured and the option to continue with the Mediclaim portion a fixed amount can be deducted from the maturity amount and the medical cover can be continued. By this method an insured person is assured of health insurance till death. Proper loading or addional appreciation of the Sum Assured can be made based on individual's claims experience. This will avoid the controversial pre-existing disease exclusion clause. Even there can be a waiting period of two to three years for the Medical insurance policy to operate after commencement of the Life Insurance Policy. Good Faith and Utmost Good Faith can be maintained by both the insured and the insurer.
