India is in the grip of unprecedented food crisis due to its failed farm policy. Mere writing off loans of farmers would not bring more grains to the starving. Once surplus wheat production in the country, now finds itself in short supply even through the PDS for common man. It is for the govt to import wheat immediately and check the slide on food front. Learn something from Japan. It is one third in term of size and lower in terms of population but it is producing grains one and half times more than India. They dont import rice and japanese dear their own goods. There was once a food crisis in Japan and it was forced to import rice. But then there was a beeline in shops where Japanese rice were sold and no taker for imported rice. This is what patriotism means to them. Indians on the other hand crave for imported goods than their own and we leave nothing to say we are more patriotic. It is for sure we are nowhere near Japanese in terms of patriotism. All said and done, India's farm policy must change. It should reduce farms inputs prices drastically, ecourage more and more farming of food grains as more farmers turning to selling lands for real estate. This should be stopped as India's food grain needs would double in a couple of years owing to rice in population.Bearing this in mind UPA govt should chalk out a programme to improve its food position. All important essentials should be sold through PDS to check prices in the open market or else India is bound to face trouble.

patriotism is an absurd notion in context of food. what people should look at is value (quality and price) and no matter whether it is imported or home grown only that will make our farmers efficient
TAKE A KNIFE AS SANJAY DID AND CHOP OFF THE HANGING CULPRIT IRRESPECTIVE OF ANY COMMUNITY. THEN ONLY THE FOOD SHORTAGE WILL BE MET. ELSE THEY WILL KEEP PRODUCING YEARLY AND SHIT OUT ON ROADS AND GARDENS. ANY POLITICAL PARTY SERIOUS TO DO THAT?
when one fails or does not want to recognise the fact, the solution to the problems will definitely be irrational and illogical. that is presented the table given by Bhavdeep Kang. the fact is that our family planning policy should have been more aggressive all the 60 years after independence.it is never too late. it should be implemented in a secular method. no lenience to any section of the society. if done, one may not find such incosistencies after 30 years in attitude to national food problems.
First thing, right now needed is to scrap the PDS. It is total waste of public money. At every point, there is corruption and wastage of time and energy. The prime responsibility of the government is to maintain price line and provide job opportunity to all. It is shameful, to see a person standing in a que for getting few kilos of cattle feed. Do you want single bread earner (could be widow/elderly person) or school going child to frequently check with the shop for ration availability and stand in the que. Who will ensure that ration is properly weighed?
ROTFl this is hilarious ..What jokers are in charge of the country . This is a classic case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing . Manhoman mama public ko complete mama bana rahe hai
UPA(United Pagal Alliance) is directionless....when we have so much excess?? stock in foodgrains why are so many people hungry...what happens to those excess stocks????are they exported???
well done Bhavdeep Kang. excellent research. Mr.Kang mentioned only the double stands inside the ministers and top governence. But If u are overlooking the performance of entire UPA parties u cannot reach in a single descision at any time. Nobody syas Inflation is due to UPA or Manmohan but it turned to be this much worst only because of the discrepancy of UPA parties and ministers.
The article is 'eye opener' but what about the cat (Agriculture Ministry) which is busy in drinking the milk and playing around on cricket grounds. There is need to bell this cat.
Government must distribute 20 kg rice or wheat at Rs 2 per kg per ration card through Public Distribution System
1. Will have a 'cascading' effect on remaining food items and will help in reducing the prices and inflation. 2. Will create 'demand' for agricultural products and will 'prevent' farmers suicide. 3. Will prevent 350 million Indians 'starving' every day for a 2nd meal.
