I was thinking on the same lines. I dont understand why these companies need to add somemore cost on top of DOLLAR values?
Are they not making any profit when they sell it for $399? then why a whopping INR 27,000?

There is no need to add another Rs1000 for shipping...Apple sources all its iphone from our Chinese friends. If at all, the landed cost should be lower...I don't know how much will be the import duty though...

Iam in china. the original 8GB ipod in Aplle store here is about 2600 RMB i.e 2500*5.5 = 13,750. Hence companies are trying to sell it to double the costs.

Hi..I guess the 27K would be just the starting price. Considering the product category that iphone belongs, to, it would be a high-value, high-margin product at launch. But, looking at the mobile phone market, the price has to come down after some time. I guess Apple is well aware of this trend, and of the fact that they might have to reduce prices (forcibly) in later stages. So, they would like to recover as much profits in the first quarter of launch, as possible. rest would be bonus. It might be launched in India somewhere around October, starting Dassera and Deepawali. This time it would be like "iphones for presents, not Dary Milk Chocolate". As a watchful customer, I would wait till Jan-Feb next year till I buy my iphone. I already have one cell phone, and the iphone would be a kind of a LUXURY item for me.

Apple cannot manufacture phone here in India. they have to import it from china (where it is manufactured now). So Apple has to pay the import duty which is about 50% for completely built units. That's why the cost is high.

hey iphone dudes if sources of toi are to be belived then cost of production of iphone is just $173
Jailbreaking also nulls your warranty. But there is a provision in ziPhone which will restore your phone to factory settings. So need not worry. Happy Unlocking !!

I had waited since dec now... & its gonna take 5 months more with no guarantee of launch(as its been post-pone for a year till then), with such a high price absolutely doesn't make sense... so go get it... am getting one in early May ... anyways I would love to have it before its delayed launch
