Numbers can be misleading
by prem Bhardwaj on Apr 12, 2008 01:56 AM  Permalink

Just the Number of proposed / existing SEZ's can misleading.Any smalltime politicain along with builder can get a piece of land designated as SEZ, after bribing officials, however we should actually look at the kind of activity happening in those SEZ's. Looking at figures above ( I suspect they are inaccurate) one should assume that AP is more industrilized than TN & Karnataka. I am sure readers from TN & Karnataka will be pretty amused by these figures. The only thing some states do is just crank up false numbers to impress forigners to attract investment, however this is just another way of sophisticated begging by fooling people. For any econimic activity to happen in a state there has to be conducive atmosphere , infrastructure & market. Now can anyone explain as to based on the numbers above how can AP have second largest number of SEZ's , yet there are people dying of starvation in that state, it is not having heavy industries , there is a minute market for most of the non agricultural products & finally as for infrstructure - Orissa produces more electricity than that state & MP has more developed network of canals & highways.
Based on above factors other states listed with large number of SEZ's can be similarly caught with foot i mouth, with reasonable exception of Gujrat, Maharashtra, TN , Punjab & Haryana.
Cheers

No Airport Infrastructure in NORTH INDIAn States.
by UnitedHindu on Apr 11, 2008 08:30 PM  Permalink

South india has big INTERNATIONAL airports in all its capital cities (Chennai, Trivandrum, Hyderabad & Bangalore). This airport infrastructure is lacking in north.

The only states where ultra modern international airports is available in TIER II cities are Tamilnadu and Kerala.

Apart from state capital Trivandrum, Cochin International Airport is the newest international airport in india after Hyderabad GMR airport. Cochin is TIER II city in Kerala.

New Ultra modern International terminal is getting built in TRICHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - Tamilnadu. Coimbatore Terminal is another International airport in Tamilnadu.

Now TN government is trying to convert Madurai domestic airport to International airport.

Apart from Cochin & Trivandrum kerala has international airport at CALICUT also.

Small state kerala is trying to create one more international airport in kerala also. If they succeed it would be the fourth international airport in Kerala.

Karnataka is trying to make Mangalore as another international hub for their state. Andhra is trying to make Vizag as another hub for their state.

Proud to be born in south india.

Rice price growing rapidly, SEZ will not give you food
by Eagle on Apr 11, 2008 05:01 PM  Permalink

India just behind SEZ. Specially Southern States. Are these states thinking about Rice prices and other food items. SEZ will be another giant to reduce the agriculture production. Center don't have common policies to improve Agriculture production & industrization both. Maharashtra have more no of suicide case but they are busy with SEZ approval.

Check the GDP statewise,Southern states lead the charts.
Today all north, west and eastern state indians has to come down to southern states to study, work and earn money.

In Literacy rate Kerala Ranks no1- and Tamilnadu ranks no-2 among all indian states.
Andhra and Karnataka literacy rate is also more than other north indian states.

Let us come to air traffic.

1. Tamilnadu has three international airports (Chennai, Trichi & Coimbatore)
and five domestic airports. Air passenger traffic in TIER II cities in tamilnadu is the highest when compared to other TIER II cities.

2. Kerala has three international airports and four domestic airports.

(TN & KERALA are the states that has more number of international airports in india).

3. Andhra has superb international airport at Hyderabad.

4. Karnataka Bangalore international airport is going to be operational soon.

Check the basic infrastructures in these states. They are superb and growing towards international standards.

Finally Tamilnadu is the only state in india where industries are decentralised out of the capital city and spread across tamilnadu from north to south and east to west.

Finally whether it is south or north it is india. Northern states has to take south as an example and improve their literacy rate, industrialisation, infrastructure, etc.

Before completing my message, north indians has to be proud that they are studying and working in southern india which is also part of india.
Be proud to be indians.

Dear ram

development doesn't mean SEZ's...development means Per capita income, rural infrastructure, Low levels of poverty, consumer market, purchasing power etc....on this account northern states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal,Uttranchal,Delhi, chandigarh are 15 Years ahead of tamilnadus and karnatakas.....SEE THE PLANNING COMMISSION REPORT AND THEN SPEAK....for example, No of poor people in above mentioned northern states is 4 to 7% while in south , it's 20-25%,

India Today magazine ranks all indian states on various parameters every years, as per that following is the ranking of states

1) Punjab
2) Kerala
3) Himachal Pradesh
4) Haryana
5)Tamilnadu
6)Maharashtra

....and so on

Scrap SEZ
by Das on Apr 11, 2008 10:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think its time to stop this SEZ concept now.
Builder/Developer are grabbing the land in the name of SEZ building and making their asset size more. So decreasing the Agri Land and also it is not developing any way(Residential/Industrial). Becoming a DeadLock kind of situation. All so called developer has 1000-3000 Acre of land Bank. Can they develop all of them in another 4-5 yrs.
Enough is Enough !!!

Many of the thing that Govt implement is actually correct in the way they wanna do. But we the People how take the implementation. We only look for the Short-Cut/loophole to the system.
Hope you have understatnd that our political/administration people are not that gr8 to follow/abide system.
For ex: SC/ST/OBC quota. Good for many reason, but see the no of fake Certificate's.
