We're no-one to hate America, We're Indians and we shud know how to love and give respect to our country i.e. INDIA! A PROUD INDIAN WOMAN! Here, Corrupted people are getting more in number just because of this reason, i think everyone is dreaming to go to America. I think that the Govt. shud play positive role here. So that every citizen should feel proud where they are living, they are secure, honest, and we can proudly say WE ARE INDIANS !

Employee as assets
by Alankar on Sep 20, 2007 12:12 PM  Permalink

For IT and outsourcing companies, employees are big assets as they are the one who are delivering and face of the company to clients. What Marico and Satyam are doing is not only the need of the hour, but its also about handling the human element well!

corporates
by Ravinder Negi on Sep 20, 2007 12:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

You can not say corporates making their employees happy, Only some companies which we can number, could make efforts to make thier employee happy, but that is like putting one glass of milk in dirty sea, where thousands of companies not care about their employee, their aim is only to make money for themselves and giving employee hir/her salary enough, even giving that also they swet.

Not all efforts are relevant irrespective the employee is satisfied with his job which has many factors to be considered by employer.

Paying Good salary and providing a nice working ENV will make anybody happy. No one will quit.

without this, even CEOs will quit.

Rediff can write all these things. But fact is different.

Actually giving the CEO title to every one had its advantages for the company. Any person who has been known as a CEO will not change(look for job) of a Manager. So, even if he gets an offer, it shall be of a CEO or something equal and then only he will move. Otherwise in the future he will find it difficult to justify why he left the job of CEO and joined as a Manager even if he is getting paid twice as more than the CEO. This is a very good ploy by the employers. Whatever the pay, the title of a CEO is bigger than a Manager. It is always better to accept lower posts but higher paying jobs initially in the career and when you think that this is it, this will be highest that you will get to, then take it.

Retention measures
by r s rao on Sep 20, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It was very much interesting to read about the innovative ways the companies (only a handful) are trying to retain the talent. I think in these companies, HR Dept do function independantly/freely and more human. Basically what I have seen in various 'big' companies is that HR dept is only a show piece and just does the job of rolling out appoinment orders and increment letters (decided by a few but not on merits) and in some cases they are least interested sitting in AC room preaching Q/C,TQM,TPM,Grid Seminar not coming out in the open and understand employees. Few companies also exist who keep one month salary as backlog always to ensure that the employees thinking does not go far beyond wondering about next paycheck.

Under these circumstances,it was just felt good to know that atleast a portion of the people are kept happy. Hope this would continue to grow in the near future (more particularly in manufacturing units).

In most of the big companys, there is much gap between Gross and net pay. Most of the benefits they promise in the pay structure are not 'useful'.

These "innovative ways" wont work if you dont pay well. If you pay well, without these innovative ways, people will stay back
