Retention measures
by r s rao on Sep 20, 2007 12:03 PM

It was very much interesting to read about the innovative ways the companies (only a handful) are trying to retain the talent. I think in these companies, HR Dept do function independantly/freely and more human. Basically what I have seen in various 'big' companies is that HR dept is only a show piece and just does the job of rolling out appoinment orders and increment letters (decided by a few but not on merits) and in some cases they are least interested sitting in AC room preaching Q/C,TQM,TPM,Grid Seminar not coming out in the open and understand employees. Few companies also exist who keep one month salary as backlog always to ensure that the employees thinking does not go far beyond wondering about next paycheck.

Under these circumstances,it was just felt good to know that atleast a portion of the people are kept happy. Hope this would continue to grow in the near future (more particularly in manufacturing units).
