Post Retirement
by George Mankottil on Oct 30, 2007 05:33 PM  Permalink

Post retirement settling in a new place after several years of employment in various places is a good way of getting new acquaintances and if lucky a few good friends. Careful financial handling in the early days could help one to fit in the newly adopted living area without making any holes in the pocket. After a few months boredom is sure to set in unless positively engaged.

Could someone come up with some ideas about starting some charitable or commercial organizataions that have branches nationwide where such people could contribute positively. It would be beneficial to the giver and the taker. The organization could fix a pay that would enable those that cant afford to spend from their own pocket to fulfil their assignments. There are so many unutilized hands wasting their days at home. It would be a great help to society by making these people productive - especially in these days when there is a shortage of good hands.

Retire from work not from life!!!
by K on Oct 29, 2007 07:15 PM  Permalink

I haven't retired as yet, but I have done some serious thinking as to what I would do after retirement. I was lucky to have learnt some basics of activities like playing badminton, playing tennis, cooking recipes, knitting, etc.
If health permits, I would want to develop tennis further. What would I benefit from learning tennis in such old age?
Well, we fail to notice something here. Not all great tennis players are great tennis coaches. And not all great tennis coaches could be great tennis players. I may not be qualified to coach national players but I would certainly be in a position to train 4-6 yrs olds.
I know I cant make hell lot of money from knitting sweaters, but can make some dough by selling knitted design patterns. I can work on trying out new types of stitches. Knitting is not a very popular art in India as there aren't severe winters throughout country. But its not exactly a no-cold country. So knitting may not flourish but it certainly cant die!!!
Finally, I have thought of something that has built China. 'Reverse-enginnering!!!!!"
Why not????? I know there is no use unless I take some formal training in field of Engineering. But I do also know that its not completely impossible for a person to fetch some useful books from library, read and develop the subject and experiment with things.
If I am not wrong most of the students do such projects in Engineering too! But they do only to pass the exam! They have no intention of studying or

To Retire or Not To
by rita merchant on Oct 29, 2007 05:00 PM  Permalink

At a time when several companies especially small & medium are complaining that with large cos. & IT giants, global firms in India etc. attracting managers with high salaries and incentives there is a shortage of wise seniors to guide SMEs. Especially needs of new innovsators who have good products but need experienced seniors who can keep the ships stable as new businesses advance at high speeds.India needs to create several pools of experienced seniors in major cities who can act as mentors & advisors and play a helpful role as in Japan, Canada, Netherlands & UK. There is a site 2ndinnings.org that is one such platform one can tap.

It is a deliberate attempt to speed up one's funeral service.

Never say retire.

Instead "Retyre".

No MBA Lecture GURU can meet the wits of a Chanakya, even if the former has a strength of a thousand against just one Chanakya.

There is a vast difference between an MBA Lecture Guru and a Chanakya.

Sir.

Retirement blues
by majju miyan on Oct 29, 2007 10:36 AM  Permalink

Retirement is one word dreaded by everyone since it is a stark reality. But it is only the state of the mind which determines whether one accepts graceful retirement or continue to slog life long just to earn a few more bucks and to remain active in public life.
