Senior citizen Shine retirement
by Arunachalam B on Oct 08, 2007 12:43 PM  Permalink

I am 65 with 45 years experience in mining. I have just day to day field activities and taken up training personnel in mining. I enjoy it irrespective of paypacket.
This keeps you busy and you earn as well
also you do not get into male menopause and shout, get irritated, find fault etc.
Unfortunately not all get such opportunity. In such a situation they should conduct tution classes on school subjects, relegion etc without expecting much remuneration. By this they do not go into depression. May be they save on medicine. Do not waste time in gossip and finding fault
A subject aptly selected. Thank u
Arunachalam,Hospet,Karnataka

Senpior Citizens' Second Innings
by kothai srinivasan on Oct 08, 2007 12:27 PM  Permalink

A timely article that throws light on the latest trend. Indeed the veterans bring to bear a lot of poise and grace in the midst of noise and aggression in today's competitive atmosphere. Kudos to our 'aunts and uncles' who are braving it all sportingly and making a mark at that!- Kothai S.

Retirement ???
by VARKEY V on Oct 08, 2007 12:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Your article is timely. There is acute shortage of manpower in every field with youngsters moving to IT and BPO sector. Marketing is wide open with fewer takers. Till retirement in 2003 I thought I was a misfit in marketing as my superiors were only extracting and very seldom thought of rewarding me. Today things have changed. I have graduated into a marketing adviser and now I sell my ideas at a much higher price. I could never dream of a holiday during my career even to a nearby hill station but today I indulge in at least one foreign travel a year !!!

Career to senior citizens
by swami pudipeddi on Oct 08, 2007 12:01 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am 61 a qualified professional with 4 decades of experience in Fiance, accounts, legal, Co.Secretarial and Admn. I am a qualified Company Secretary since 1982, Law 15 years and Accounting qulfn awarded by the CAG in 1973.Now a days I find people with say 6 - 7 years of edxperience are paid Rs.18 to 25 lakhs per annum while during our hey days the pay structure was not like that. A person drawing annually Rs.1,20,000 7 years back is being paid Rs.18 lkhs now. This shows that the economy is grwoing and people are willing to pay but the only thing is bargaining capacity. Senior citizens with their vast experience are unable to extract the best since they feel any thing is OK. Therefore there should be articles like this which gives a boost to the career of sr.citizens.

I fully agree with you sir. After all there is no substitute for experience. But then the experienced should also train the youngsters to excel in their professions and groom them and retire gracefully.

They often become fearless.

Thats why they write their memoirs only after retirement.

In business their approach is very much based on the experience; as such there may not be substantial results like Yahoo or Google, but the boat will remain afloat, and steady.

In any case, the jewels remain jewels, whether at 25, or 65, or 75, or 85, or 95, and in rare cases say 105 ?

The authorities often ignore the senior citizens, or blackmail them through their (the senior citizens') younger generation.

Chanakya knows several incidents where the younger generation have pleaded their dads from pursuing anti-bhrushtaachaar movements.

Pappa ko samzaao; kuchh honewala nahi hai, aur hum log musibat mein pad jayenge.

All kinds of enquiries and scrutinies pour in from every government agency once a senior citizen pokes a needle into the buttock of a bhrusht civil servant or a politician.
