If your Manager is of a Bonsai Species.....
by jeevan johny on Apr 29, 2008 07:22 AM  Permalink

If your Manager is of a Bonsai Species, the possibilty is that the subordinate will lose every opputunity to grow.It is the HR who should provide antedotes to the Bonsai Manager to move on to the path of progress and pave way for growth for others ! But in some Orgasations, HR feeds the Bonsai in such a way that niether he grows nor let others grow

Solution to the Stunted Manager problem?
by ravi prakash on May 21, 2007 03:21 PM  Permalink

The article is interesting. The author would have us believe that getting stunted as a manager is largely the manager's own responsibility. The syndrome of the stunted manager was tackled by Jack Welch in GE when he introduced a programme to remove 10% of the work force every year. He believed that in every organisation at least 10% people underperformed. Thus over a period of time the worst performing employees would be weeded out.
It would be interesting if the author had indicated the fate that ultimately befell the Foundry Manager. This would have revealed how Indian companies tackle the problem of the Stunted Manager

Mr. Gopalakrishnan

Coming from Mr. Gopalakrishnan, I am sure that this book will be a very useful & interesting read.

I have got the good opportunity to read some other articles/speeches written by Mr. Gopalakrishnan & find him an Indian Management Guru who writes with so much passion & clarity on the reality that we as managers in India face today. Also his experience at HLL & Tatas his candour & honesty give a range tinge of authenticity to hatever he speaks on.

Good article
by on May 21, 2007 02:21 PM  Permalink

The book is obviously the result of a lot of practical experience. This excerpt deals with the manager looking at the big picture.

Unfortunately, the books that sell are those which have many made-up anecdotes and advice on faking confidence, smartness etc. Such books and articles may help those with mediocre ambitions.

This excerpt on the other hand deals with a manager constantly challenging and improving oneself which is actually the route to excellence.

It requires positive attitude to reach the top! Not people who believe in just one thing and stick to it....! Please change the way you think.

if u have enough time to write replies to rediff articles, you might as well spend a few minutes to find out who R Gopalakrishnan is before saying "the writer himself might not have worked at all".... Your ignorance is utterly disappointing.

Well said, after reading any article on the web people should find what all positives they can get to change themselves instead of overlooking into useless things. I hope this might change the attitude of people right from the lower level to the managers.

Ad given as a Headline
by on May 21, 2007 01:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Even though the content looked interesting it looks like the author has paid rediff to put this up under hdealines and thereby make a selling of the book. It would be nice if Rediff makes a differentiation between news and ads and stops misleading the readers

I think if rediff allows a person like you to post your stupid message for free, obviously they wont take any penny from Mr.R. Gopalakrishnan to publish and share his intelligence.
