I found the observations by Anurag most interesting and incisive to say the least. Anurag ought to have a regular column here. Are you guys in Rediff listening?
Guys Some important things not to be done when you go to some company for an INterview
1. Never and Never stare at Receiptionist or some other female candidate ( Hidden cameras will be there ) 2. If they ask you to wait for a long time, plese show patience, they are trying to test it. dont look at your watch as if you are very busy 3. Never try to show off, let it be whatever you are. 4. If you are nervous never Expose it
There are three things you should give the utmost care in your career.:
1. You feel you are paid well. 2. You are comfortable with the office atmosphere. 3. You have career growth.
If you have three of them, you are lucky and you have no reason to look for a new job. If you have two of three, you are OK. Most of us fall in this category. If you have only one of the three, look for a new job.

SUPPOSE IF WE ARE DEFAULTING ON POINT NO.1 AND MEETING 2 AND 3 THEN WHAT WILL BE YOUR OPINION??
I have been offered an Hospital Administrators position, and I have to complete a form. I would like answers to:
1) Briefly describe your ideal job? 2)What goals do you have in your career? 3)How do you plan to achieve these goals? 4)Why should we hire you over the others waiting to be interviewed? 5) Why do you want to work here?
1) understand the grade structure in the new organisation and how peers ( people of similar talent/exp ) are stacked up in the organisation. So if you join at a higher salary in a lower grade - you won't get much hike in next few years. 2) ensure that you join at an appropriate grade so that you do not remain stuck in a grade while your peers move ahead. many companies have policies of promotion wherein you need to spend 2-3 years before moving up. 3) understand the organisation structure thoroughly. this will enable you to foresee roadblocks that can come up in your promotion prospects 4) check if the culture of the new organisation is aligned to your value system. so if you are working in an MNC with an open culture and fairly lavish travel and other perks - adjusting to a Desi company which values thrift is difficult...or for that matter if your current company respects your personal time and weekends and new company wants longer hours and weekend work to show commitment - that is a red signal for you. 5 ) understand compensation and bonus structure carefully. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush especially if you want to make changes more in tune with your talent you wouldn't want to be stuck with low pay and high unpaid bonusses and deferred pay. 6) And lastly - make sure that you have done a thorough reference check of the guy you are going to work with . If he is good , great - else remember you spend more waking hours with him than your spouse.

One point the Anurag missed is that you should also ask about the profile and the team you are going to work with.He only covered the point of view of an employer by having the reference check. The thing is that the clapping is made by both the hands. So next time you are going to join a new job, Do ask the profile of your manager.. the Team he is managing as such.Afterall you are going to either have fun working with them or else feel a suffocation. Its 0 or 1 principle, there isn't a middle way here.

It is good to read. But one will have to think of practical and ral life situations. The points stated are good academically, but in practice, most of these don't work.
Real life situations are much different than theory.

If u r applying for job online via databases .... then it is very important that you word ur resume carefully with relevant keywords. No one has the time to read the thousands of resumes that come up everyday. The database picks up the relevant ones for the employers. you need to include keywords in your resume for the database to pickup, else it will just be trashed.

hi saravan, offers come if ure registered in a job-site. u can do it for free with naukri.com or monsterindia
The article is very good and does give a clear direction as to how should one go about assessing a job offered to him/her. This should definitely help those who get stuck in a sort of dilemma when the decision time stares you.
yes it is, A person who can analys all these do and dont then it means that the person really does not need a new job. And if the person is desperate for a new job, then all these dos and donts dont hold any water.

yes absoultely correct , the one who doesnt even have a single offer wouldnt care abt the dont and do's its all about getting a job rather than choosing a role coz at that time "money becomes the need of the hour".
