It%u2019s very simple if you like India then live in India or if you like USA/UK/Canada live in western world.
Yes development/technology/money can buy cars, houses, electronic gadgets, expensive clothes and food But there are few things money can not buy clean air, clean water, river rafting, hiking, cycling in national parks, beautiful accessible mountains, affordable traveling, driving pleasure, skiing, day-everyday civic senses and good public services.
But mostly Indian people even who live in US they just keep themselves busy in job, technology, watching movies, money (may be one day opening own body shopping company to suck other consultants%u2019 money)
But don%u2019t give stupid accuse that I will move to India when get passport here or having 2 US born kids or make 1 million or at retirement.
I'm one of those people who believes in this new India. I believe the new India must have better human rights, if not no atleast less poverty, better education to the poor, better hygiene...We really need to be more aggressive in these areas. Only then we can proudly call our india a new India. Is it fair to showcase only the brighter side of things and leave the other side. We are still called a third world country. There's a rape everyday in the capital. We will need to work on this guys. I'm sorry to be a little pessimistic. I believe development does not mean only in business/money but most importantly in law & order, human values etc.
Yes India is rising. We're believing in ourselves but we must know why we have these blessings. It is because of our value system and commitment to take responsibility. Its not like UK USA where people go amuk and get confused with drugs. We have to keep on believing our strong social system and keep on moving.
Please don't write big articals like these without knowing the facts ...I live in USA and in my last trip to Hyderabad 1.i could not efford asimple party for my friends 2. With my ten years of savings i can't efford to buy a simple house 3. I have seen all my friends are having expensive cars than what i own in USA..4. If you look at savings the savings are more in India than USA for software guys.
It's just your perception on how you look...There are problems in every country..Good and bad ..We have got freedom only 50 years back and USA had 200 years back and still we are what we are ..We have strenghts and weak nesses ..and we have to believe in our strenghths..."""""""""Vivekananda said as below" Take the whole responsibility on your shoulders and your are the creator of your own destiny """"""""""" I request you to concentrate on some better things which can change at least one person's life ...
I am sorry for a big article ...But yes i am a strong believer of Stron India ...

Hi Police stewart,
What nonsense!! Brain Drain as a concept is stupid my dear fellow. It is because of that very brain drain that today india is rising. "Brain Drain is better than Brain in Drain".
If a person goes to US because there is an oppurtunity there, then he is leaving a vacant oppurtunity here in india. We donot have any shortage of talented people who need jobs!! We just have to improve some of the people's skills.
I am one of those few who have returned to india after studying and working in US. I have been in india now for 3 years. It is improving in many ways. Stop being negative and try to take advantage of the situation to do something. It is ideal time.
I did read every opinion & suggestion quoted down below based on the article above. BUT NOW, LET ME ASK YOU ALL INDIANS HERE WHO HAVE COMMENTED ON THIS PAGE," HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE ACTUALLY HAD THE INTEREST IN SPEAKING OF HOW THEY HAVE CONTRIBUTED AS AN INDIVIDUAL TOWARDS WHAT THEY EXPECT 'THE DREAM INDIA TO BE'?? HOW MANY OF THEM HAVE CONVINCED THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS TO CONTRIBUTE TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY A BETTER ONE???
Guys, its easy to advice...possibly because some have the a good gift of gab to express those & the some secure those with a good know-how of what's happening around. I SAY WE DON'T NEED PEOPLE WHO SIMPLY CAN SAY....BUT WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CAN ACT THEMSELVES.....REMEMBER THE SCENE IN 'RANG DE BASANTI' AT THE DHABA WHEN ALL FRIENDS GET OFFENDED WITH MADHAVAN'S THOUGHT OF IMPROVING INDIA & THE SAME SET OF FRIENDS WHO ACT AS AWAKENED SOULS AT THE END OF THE MOVIE.....WE NEED SUCH REAL LIFE EXAMPLES TO WAKE THE SOULS OF COWARD INDIANS.....MY FELLOW INDIANS, WAKE UP..."LET'S OWN UP AN ISSUE IN OUR COUNTRY & ACT ON IT"

The word, %u201CIndia shining or India a super power%u201D has gravity when we implement an "expansionist policy" and succeed. We can only secure India by expansion, and then India can provide a stable environment to develop and sustain a super economy, which makes for a super power.
1 By realizing %u201CAkhanda Bharatha%u201D from Afghanistan to Burma from Tibet to Srilanka....A weak Afghanistan & Burma has always brought instability into heartland India.
2. We must Indianize the world rather than westernizing India.
3. Abolish all forms of monotheist religion which only breeds intolerance and fanatics. Destroy all monotheistic religious schools. No reservation of any form should be provided to monotheist.
What did I do for India.. I fired 3 monotheists from my factory and abolished all national holidays referring to monotheistic religion.
I threatened and sent away 23 missionary people from my village. Next time may be I will have to take more stringent action.

I like you for being an action initiator...KEEP GOING MY MAN & I SURE OF A DAY WHERE WE NEVER WILL HVE TO DISUSS SUCH THINGS!!
Guys, I live in USA..and problems are every where just because there are poor in India you write a big article saying India is no where and it is wrong ..In USA 30 % are not even elligible to get an injection because they don't have insurance. In India every citizen is provided with medication what ever the it may be. 2. You called child labor is every where ..What do you know about USA..Every child works here to pay for his college..At least in India no parent allows their children to work and pay ...And In USA 10% are illeagal which meanse they can't drive ,they can't do any thing and they are the real maid servants...You need to go to differant countries to know about uour country ..The other side is always greennn... But i honestly agree that in India there is only one problem that is Reservations Reservations and Reservations ..And that will end the day these Paswans,Arjun Singh's retire..Good thing is Even Laloo is a changed man now ...

Very correct article. By the end of one week in USA i could understand that India has everything, like natural resources, large manpower, intelegence, hard working nature, can undergo hardship, Family and community feelings, technological progress ----All this is waste because of a small element we are badly missing that is Sincerity. Yes Corruption is killing our country -We are not only dishonest to others but we are even dihonest to our selves. We want something else to do we do some thing else and we want to show something else. No honesty anywhere btw Not only the people who do corruption are dishonest but the people who pay bribe are more responsible.

Hold on, Hold on. I live in US as well. Of course there are problems of different nature everywhere on earth. But we are dealing with some of the most basic issues that India has not been able to deal with. The same issues have been long taken care of by several third world countries.
The problem of illiteracy, poverty, lack-of-civic sense among indian nationals, communalism, nepotism, bribery and the list goes on. Just this past year, I was in India and the way Indians treat Indian nationals at the int'l airport is a prime example. You go to JFK airport, they greet you with a smile if you are a foreigner and start a conversation or two if you are a US citizen. But in India, boy oh boy.. this guy was so harsh, extremely rude, lacked common sense and demanded that I pay him x number of rupees cuz I had taken so much of his "valuable" time in asking questions on the connecting flights. The problem is that

I rest my case. As long as India has people just like yourself, conceited, self-centered, narrow-minded and communal, there is NO HOPE for India & Indians. Sorry buddy, you need a wake-up call. Go read up HISTORY (thats if you are literate enough to understand the cause and effect) and then talk some sense. You are living in the 21st century and you are talking about Hindus & Muslims and conversion.. makes me sick to my stomach.

What poverty are you talking about ??? Do you think there is no poverty in USA?? Just don't make your experiances standardized...Instead of blaming India what have you done for your school which gave you free education to come over to USA and earn Dollars and spit back on your the mother land...you will remember your motherland one day ...

Just tell me when a poor met an accident in India, what will happen. They take to hospital emergency and get treated. But in developed country, they do the same & you have to pay for your life if you don't have insurance. Who cares poor more?
47 percent of Indian children under the age of five are either malnourished or stunted. The adult literacy rate is 61 percent (behind Rwanda and barely ahead of Sudan). Even this is probably overstated, as people are deemed literate who can do little more than sign their name. Only 10 percent of the entire Indian labor force works in the formal economy; of these fewer than half are in the private sector. The enrollment of six-to-15-year-olds in school has actually declined in the last year. About 40 million children who are supposed to be in school are not. About a fifth of the population is chronically hungry; about half of the world's hungry live in India. More than a quarter of the India population lives on less than a dollar a day. India has more people with HIV than any other country.
(Sources: UNDP, Unicef, World Food Program; Edward Luce)
You get the idea.
The 2006 UN Human Development Report, which ranks countries according to a variety of measures of human health and welfare, placed India 126th out of 177 countries. India was only a few places ahead of rival Pakistan (134th) and hapless Cambodia (129) and behind such not-about-to-be-superpowers as Equatorial Guinea (120), and Tajikistan (122).
JUST LOOKING AT THE STOCK MARKET AND MUMBAI AND IT COS AND ALL THE BIG CITIES, YOU CANT SAY INDIA IS SUPERPOWER.
Right now I am in US, but I am from a very small town in India. I am 32 now and the town where I am from is just the way it was as far back as I can remember. In fact things are getting worse .. more posercuts, more bad road and worst of all more population ..

Mr. Human Mind You stated that The adult literacy rate is 61 percent (behind Rwanda and barely ahead of Sudan) if statistics are true than there should be more scientist and engineers in Rwanda than in India. Your statement is wrong.. Your mind needs to think hard.

Wake up one in four is sleeping with Hunger, unless these corrupt politicians get killed our poor people will die of Hunger, Come on guys start thinking about our corrupt rulers.

Agree friend. The so called "New India" is only limited to metrocities. The media only highlights urban India. Save the country from dirty politicians and ugly bureaucrats. Jai Hind
I am afraid but the reality is a bit different from what is written in this article. Let%u2019s not be emotional (something on which we are good at) about things, let%u2019s take a practical approach. I agree with what is written in this article, but the big question is who will change the Attitude of the people here in India. I believe Attitude is the key to success, as a Nation we stands no where in the world. Its about personal achievements, Indians are successful, individually but not as a country.
We still are a Hindu, Sikh first or a North Indian / South Indian. A player from one region is not selected in the cricket team, people start protesting, we will always use shortcuts in Govt office, we will give police man 50 rupees to avoid a challan of 100, we fight on religion, we fight on caste, people clean their house and throw everything out on streets. Every one of us struggle for basic things in life. You are at home, no electricity, no water, on road Traffic / Pollution, in office corruption everywhere. No one is serious about India as a country, every one of us is self centric, self focused and selfish.
Politicians are the biggest culprits. They are making fool of us for last 50 years and will keep doing it until and unless we die as a nation. Every single place has been named for a Politician, every college / school / airport / everything. Although they have no relation what so ever with it. They will raise issue on making a Hindu Temple in every election, giving reservations to Muslims. A person who has never played a single ball in his entire life is the president of state cricket association. They will send their children%u2019s abroad for studies / marriage etc and after that they will rule Fool people like us. We need leaders who have vision and who can think beyond caste / religion / region, people who can think about nation.
Again coming to the point Attitude is the key, it%u2019s not about individuals, every one of us needs to change. Who is creating this corruption, who is making the streets dirty? Think about it you will find the answers. One person here and there can%u2019t change a nation, but certainly can set an example to follow.
Promise that Next time when you will go at a railway station, you will not split or you will not give bribe to get something done. You will follow all the rules and do awareness in your family. Things will improve automatically, I can guarantee you%uF04A

u said it .. this is what every Indian who is educated and can think has in their hearts about our fellow citizens who trade others life for a living ..this is the condemnation in every mans heart about what India is going through behind the hype of being a superpower .. we are repressed and suppressed by religion and corruption .. what the religious fanatics wont realize is that no religion or caste is right or wrong to prove that they have to kill 1.2 billion people , destroy everything and start everything new which will make them at least thousand years behind what the western has achieved ..
