IS MBA Necessary?
by Deepak Jadhav on Dec 27, 2007 03:30 PM  Permalink

I think to get high paid job become MBA is very important, thats why these poor guys run behind the MBA degree. One should get military training for high pay job, since this training will teach you the manners, time management, And who says that company run by the virtue of the MBA'S, its not it is by virtue of operational guys who work 12 hrs a day and run here & there. When this will be get considered.

Thank you,

Business schools cannot and should not make CEO

it is not the job of b-schools to make ceos. their job is to make managers . ceos are to be self-made . managers should mould themselves to become entrepreneurs and finally ceos . irrespective of who sign our paycheck we are the masters of our own destiny . ceos are paid what they are worth in market place . market is neutral . thats why steve jobs is paid $600 million as salary

Most Bogus Attitude

By doing a Rag-Tag curriculum; 2-papers from eco. , 2-papers from Accountancy,2-papers from M-Phil. etc. does not make a Business Expert which is what MBA is all about. All farse and a clever ploy by some greedy academicians.By acquiring a piece of paper-certificate does not make a Business-Expert only an informed individual for which so much money to get into and all the hype is simply a FOOLING BUSINESS and welcome for the IDIOTS.

This shows you are not MBA... Thats why you are thinking logically... Try to bring in a bit of spice in your life by not being logical always... then it would make sense to believe CEO is not a manager...

Good topic for GD...
by Abbas Rescued on Dec 26, 2007 03:17 PM  Permalink

Sounds like a good topic for the so called GD round of selection process for IIMs... No practical use otherwise... Why keep cribbing when we all know it is hard to substantiate why someone became a CEO or why someone did not become a CEO...

B-Schools create MNC bureaucrats ...

Also, the way most b-schools still hire fresh under-grads and have profs with no industry experience (even IIMs) ... makes one question the real capability addition in that model ...

50-60% of all MBAs change their "campus" jobs within the first 18-24 months ... and often change domains ... makes one wonder why this breed is so confused in spite of all the business training ...

Did you just say Well said??? I think the article is confused about what is wants to convey! Just another catchy headline like several others on rediff without the content justifying the caption.

B-schools are "polishing" schools. They are NOT "teaching" schools. It is even mentioned in the article. Then why the umpteen headlines like "B-schools don't teach..."? To warm the hearts of non-MBAs to have them believe they haven't really missed out on much?! Please!

No doubt that there are serious issues in the way students are selected in an MBA course specifically in India but whoever said you dont learn teamwork, networking, leadership and blah blah in a B-school. They sure dont teach it. Thats NOT their job. But who says you dont learn them all the same??? You learn them even better because the tussle for leadership is even greater in a B-school! Either you take the lead, take charge, rough it out and emerge the winner or sulk in the background and perhaps write one of those "B-schools dont teach..." articles at a later stage in your life!

And whoever said changing your job and domain in the first 18-24 months makes you confused!? A lot of them are successful and are leading their companies to success right? So whats more important? Staying in a job/domain for 35 years and retiring with good pension or doing a bit better?

Boy idfro...

I do second the view about wht has been told.
I seriously think these Million dollar craving MBAs do nothing buta liability..Tell me how many first generation CEOs are MBA.

Boy its simple MBA is a ticket to high money w/o the requisite work exp or vision or hard work..
A bunch of ambitious folk who cant create anything..even a good life for themselves...most of the time than some salary..

I am not talking of those guys who study MBA for the love for the knowledge part of it..I know MBA is a very good course that organize us..
I am talking for those who want to become a CEO with a Degree. Being a CEO is not what a MBA can give..rather I would suggest its recognizing the philosophy at the right time..developing the leadership skill..and being a great individual..makes u a CEO..Not any IIM/Havard Degree

So which B-schools claims they make CEOs? You dont need a B-school education to be a CEO! Heck, you dont even need ANY formal education to be a CEO. Bill Gates was a college drop out and so was Steve Jobs and I dont even know if Dhirubhai had any education at all! Yet they are what they are today. Legends in their own right! So should we say education is a waste and they dont teach you to be a CEO to be in Kindergarden and all that!?? C'mon yaar! As someone has said in another post, it is just a great topic for some idle gossip and adds zilch value to anyone reading it. Like a Page 3 article.
