free broadband

it is a fact that 80% of the BSNL /MTNL lines cannot sustain 2Mbps. It would be fantastic if even 50% can do 512K well.
2. 9 Million Broadband? There are around 20 Mn. PCs in the country, of which 10 million are in the offices, and partly in semi-urban, small town locations. This gives you 10 n. remaining. Of this, at least 20% cannot get any kind of connectivity. SO where is the population of PCs that can provide 9 Million subscribers?

How free?
by Kaushik Das on Apr 27, 2007 12:46 AM  Permalink

How is it going to be free, however cheap it is??? Anyway, free landlines should be a reality in future, sponsored by the govt as landlines are an important way of identifying people in the absence of ration cards - this is very important for migratory populaces.

IPv6
by Vaibhav Kulkarni on Apr 26, 2007 10:46 PM  Permalink

Now that the Internet infrastructure is being built from the ground up, it would wise to adopt IPv6 (the future of the Internet Protocol) instead of the current IPv4 which will soon run out of address space. Apart from larger address space, it also has other advantages like better security. Better to be equipped from the beginning rather making the transition later.

by Rajashaker Allipuram on Apr 26, 2007 10:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is to bring your notice that the current paid brandband connections are not available properlky in the Cities itself as everytime BSNL says Ports are not available. Few of my friends applied for broadband till now BSNL could not give the connection becoz of lack of Ports.

Thanks

Very true. MTNL service is pathetic. THe delivery time is over a month. Extremely frequent downtime. Worst attitude, especially of senior management. Had to settle for a slower though relible service from local cablewala, after 2 months of harrowing time fighting and following-up with MTNL officials.
