Yes , India will very well become a Global Knowledge economy leader. Thanks to the IT , Pharma , Telecom , Retail , Entertainment sector boom , this is happening in only 10 to 20% of the population. Around 80% are still below poverty line and are languishing in underemployment , posses low skillsets , involved in child labour , ragpickers , low farming productivity and poor peasants , women in manual jobs , street vendors , beggars , hotel workers , low level menial jobs. This is where the Govt should address by focussing on Technology and effective Technology Mgt in Education ,Health care , Agriculture , Public Utilities , Water Mgt , Power , Telecom and other infrastructure areas. The information age has resulted in a Knowledge Economy and until we educate and impart the right skillsets and vocational skills to every Indian , emerging as a Global economy leader is a far cry. We should not miss out to Brazil , Russia and China with our large unwieldy population base . Finally , Govt should stop further population groth in the poverty stricken villages of Orissa , Bihar , MP , Rajasthan , AP , HP. Then we can empete with China.

The answer lies in the very two words - Knowledge and Economy. Knowledge is intelligence used for good. And good Economics also is economics used for good. How do we use these two for good. Let's start with the 80% our friend Ramesh Ramesh Vemuganthi talks of. We have seen the 'Garibi Hatao', policies from various governments over these years, with absolutely now garibi removed. Garibhi Hatao is actually 'Ameeri Banao'. To become ameer one has to cut costs. The lay Indian should be educated to cut costs. A garig cutting costs simply means family planning. With just one child the man/woman can save and gradually become ameer. He also has the time for a little learning if he can make ends meet easily. This way he/she gains knowledge and is economically sounder. The foundation of good economics is that money should be spread around. It should be in the hands of everyone. There is no point in money being with a few persons. That is why I don't agree with the sponsor of this feature. It is not enough for Reliance to make millionaires out of a few thousand or hundred thousand people. They should come out with businesses that make all Indians richer. It is not enough if Mr. Mukesh and Mr. Anil are among the richest in the world. They should see to it that India becomes better off too.
No doubt the article is well explained however i would like to add few issues .We should focus more on quality of education in india apart from IIM ,IIT AIIMS .we need to enhance education quality in other educational institutions.

Offcourse INDIA has potential to be a Super Power house, but the fact or reality is totally different, will the Selfish Babudom will let it happen....??
We should mainly focus on Population....!! Which is a big hurdle in the path towards further development....!!
As right now the work force in the age 0f 20-40 is good, but the chikd birth rate is too fast....!!
Aren\'t we AWARE of it....???
Down the line it will be a biggest issue to solve, so we should mainly/primarily focus on controlling the population and parallely we should look for
Infrastructure development for the further growth...!
I agree with all that is about the conditions prevailing in India and people not getting all facilities which the hihgher income group is availing. Lets see our past ten years back had anybody visualised that we will come this far inspite of all the conditions we were saying not suitable to become a super power. Now people started believing in some of the predictions so lets not get prejudiced by anything but work in our small spheres keeping all this in mind.
This is a very well written article.I want to add that emargos period after Pokhran[1974 & 1998] has given an opportunity to Scientists & Engineers in strategic Departments like Atomic Energy,DRDO,ISRO etc. to do lot of original work at home. Many of these will be available even after their retirements from respective departments to the knowledge process outsourcing work at an economical cost/fees/charges. With the revival of Nuclear Energy Sector world over,India will have a good pool of experienced Human Resources.
What I noticed in the article by Mr. Jacob is that he is talking more on science and the allied fields. What of the other streams like Law, fashion, tourism etc? Though optimistic the thought is onesided. India is a developing country and the ground level i.e people at the primary level are suffering due to poverty, corruption, farmer suicides, placidity to stand for ones rights, red tapism, criminals standing up for elections, etc. All this have formed part of the middle and lower classes people of India. India has a long way to go. KPO's and BPO's are accesible by the metropolitan classes. A large population are not elligble for these kind of jobs they hail from villages and not so popular universities. India has educated many great minds and still keeps on educating them, without asking for any returns. The country needs some real thinking, enlightened minds at the top level of the bureacracy. The Manmohan Singh government for example is a pride for every Indian. Watching a young Rahul Gandhi in a meeting representing India at an international level is revitalizing. It sends out the message loud and clear-"ITS PAY BACK TIME".
It really sounds great to know that we have all the ammunitions to convert this dream into reality but not all is that hunky-dory.Talking about the hurdles, the greatest is the social uogradation which really has receded in the past few years and will definitely going to stall the economic reform sooner than later. With the country still fighting to feed every single being, the econommic and KPO leadership is a far fetched dream.
I am not sure when Indians will be out of this false and stupid sense of IIT/IIM superiority. How many of these IIT/IIMs are working in BARC or ISRO, how many are working towards innovating something new for India. I do not see any entrepreneurship from those graduates inside India. A country can be prosperous with Innovation, new ideas, and new brain, not by people who just manage the day-to-day activity of a company or settle abroad. I wish someday we Indians will get out of this false propaganda and start looking people in terms of their capability not in terms of past history, background etc. Thanks Satya
