IT IS A GREAT FAILURE!
by J.N.Mahanty on Jul 15, 2006 09:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No doubt, it is a Great Failure and a great loss to the poor Country.

We cannot afford to lose huge sum of Money in such Failures, where more than 50% of our population is living in abject poverty, where starvation death is an everyday story, where Mother is selling Baby for lack of food, where a woman is walking 10 kms to fetch a bucket of water, etc etc.

The Failure shd be thoroughly investigated and the people incl the Minister in Charge, must be made accountable and shd be punished.

Dear Mahanty you sre true, our politicians are patting their back for raising the old age penisionfrom rs.50 to rs.200, and shame on these politicians when they know that some of them wards require rs.500 note for snorting the herione, how come this rs.200 will serve a poor old man, where in that age he requires more care, and when asked for increase these same shameless politicians says that there is financial crunch, when all these happens , than a missile and gslv failure costing this much big amount is really a shame on india, indians in general and the shameless politicians and sceintists involved in these missions in particular, hereafter these type of big unsuccesfull projects should be stopped. First the hunger of poor has to be satisfied and then only this type of fancy thaughts shuold be think. If govt is so ken on this, then it should allow the private companies to do this. Atleast the govt should realize and stop the fancy unralistic projects from, kasturi, kumarswamy and so on who sit in aircondition labs with unbudgeted money of tax payers

Why Rs 256 crores were lost?
by VENKATESAN on Jul 15, 2006 07:45 AM  Permalink

It is a pity that most of us think abt Insurance as a concept of loss minimisaation/mitigation after the event occurs.

In a Country which boaasts itself as advancing nation, there is hardly any movement in going towards a Managed Healthcare & Govt/politicians use it only in plaatforms not in implementation.

Similarly taking Insurance as a part of PROJECT COST as prevalent in US/Europe is not practiced.

Time to relook into our Project/Social costing .

Does not make sense
by Vijay on Jul 15, 2006 01:11 AM  Permalink

Insuring with the same New India Assurance company in case of external launches does not make any difference in case of a disaster, does it? The fact remains the same that they are both govt owned companies, then how do external and internal launches make a difference insurance wise?

Give ISRO a break
by Ashish on Jul 15, 2006 12:17 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Give ISRO a break you guys!!!
Every new venture has initial failure.
Even the Americans, Russians etc. had failures in their space programmes.
Instead of complaining about the launch failure & the huge financial loss, people should come forward & encourage them.
ISRO has some of the best brains in INDIA & they will succeed.
As with regards to the taxpayers' money which people say was wasted, look into other places - if you know what I am talking about- to find out the real losses!!!

Well, its no mistake if you have managed to read the whole article and understand the principles of insurance.

In simple terms it means that there is a (one in three) chance for such a mission such as this to fail!! That's how it is being priced!

Juvenile or common sense - you decide

92 Crores premium?
by Sagar Tanksali on Jul 14, 2006 11:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Gentlemen (I mean the authors), for heaven's sake, do your homework before opening your mouths!! Rs. 92 crore premium for an asset worth Rs. 250 crore? You don't need to be an insurance expert to realise there's a goof up (at your end, I mean).

More likely, the premium would be Rs. 92 lakh.

Try not to make such juvenile mistakes again.

Unfortunately replied to the message below yours.

If you have read the article completely and if you understand the principles of insurance, you will understand that the chances of a failure are priced at around (one in three).

There is no mistake - don't jump to conclusions

why India lost .......
by k.sekar on Jul 14, 2006 11:18 PM  Permalink

The title is highly misleading. One would have expected deep insight into the technical aspects of the failure or leads on what sort of goof-ups, if any, that took place in the launch.Instead, the article is about a purely commercial cant viz.,insurance, which, is a grandiose gimmick designed and operated always for the benefit and survival of the Insurers.

Why India lost Rs 256 crores
by raghu on Jul 14, 2006 10:40 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why is everyone picking on ISRO for just one lost mission in 13 successfullaunches? How come no one compares this to the trillion money swindled from the exchequer by politicians in countless scandals ? Satellite launch missions are not technically simple things. Even NASA lost two space shuttles after countless flawless launches. these risks have to be accepted for the ultimate benefit they bring and that is considerably more than 256 crores.

I quite agree with Raghu. We Indians generally have very short memory. One failed mission out of 13 sucessful missions doesn't mean anything to Indians.

So much of money is being swindled and not even an eyebrow is raised. what a tragedy?

do not cry over a split milk
by ncsharma on Jul 14, 2006 09:25 PM  Permalink

What ever happened happened.forget the past. Now the question is that where the fault lies to rectify and start with a fresh one. We have lost not only money but count the cost overall-must be addition to what we are presuming.who is responsible for this NATIONAL LOSS.Rectify the fault jointly where the fault lies, and prepare for the next .Failure is a failure in all aspected.Blaming each other is totally not advisable at this point of time.

Why India lost Rs 256 crores
by Push on Jul 14, 2006 09:13 PM  Permalink

Such type of failure or loss can not be measure in term of money. Further the amount is very neglegible compare to the corruption done by our politician in verious scams/ scandels.
