if u have travelled thru cochin airport, you will know the benefits of not having AAI run airports. Cochin airport, a private venture is an eye opener to all of us subjected to AAI and their mis-management. Having worked as a service provider in Mumbai and Cochin airports, I know what AAI really is- callous, unprofessional, laggards, and most importantly a ' complain karna hai to karo, hum govt. employee hain, hamara kuch nahi hoga' attitude. DO we need these creeps at all? Let them go on strike...and lets get rid of them once and for all.
thank God, the Govt looks like its got some spine after all. travelling frequently to china since 1997 has opened my eyes to the pathetic state of our airports in comparison to airports in china.
since we so like to compare ourselves to them and hope we come up at least in some respects, i have chosen to highlight the difference. a cursory look at Beijing capital airport will clearly show that AAI and their crew have done little to upkeep our gateways. their staff lacks attitude. some of them come to work looking like they slept in the same clothes.
i really hope the Govt has the balls to go ahead and do this and not fall in line of some Pseudo learned communist party line of thought. they ought to fix things right, charge people a airport usage charge for 3-4 years and recover the costs. airports ought to be clean, functional and efficiently run. the AAI crew really have done a lousy job so far. that universally accepted. cant they just allow others to fix it?
Enough of unwanted/ problem creating Unionism. Enough of lackluster/ don't care attitude of airport employees. Airport employees have to have professional attitude, be knowledgeable, helpfull to commuter needs and most importantly be professionally behaved. And all these are not possible if it is a Govt. organisation, because Govt. officer/ managers either incompetent and forced by union to comply to wrong things. So BYE BYE corrupted/ unprofessional/ unwanted unionism culture.
The state of the affairs is simply unacceptable, I am totally convinced. As I walked into the Mumbai airport's international hanger run by Air India last year, I was embrassed to be an Indian. The sleazy, greedy eyed airport officials, in faded blue unclean uniforms were bugging foreigners, desis (especially ladies travelling alone) to "hire" their services in order to get some excess baggage through, or jump a queue. In other words, they were offering illegal services, and the police didnt seem to give a rat's behind. Then there were other idiot officials pretending to give unwanted help to foreigners and begging for tips in return. It was so disgusting that I was ashamed of being an Indian. This has to stop, and that is for sure.
The ideal way would have been for the Aiports Authority of India (AAI) to strap their shoes and get rid of this nuisance already. But seeing as they have not been able to curb it, the only other way is to get a profit motivated private firm in charge in order to clean up the bull that's lying around and get affairs in order.

Try working for a measly salary and then not to try and maximise your incomes in whichever way you can...
Cab drivers & waiters/waitresses are given tips of the order of 14-25% of the bill amount in the US. They sometimes even ask for the tip if you 'forgot' put it on the check!!! And this in the USA...
People have families to support and everyone is not a blue collar worker...
Government needs to rationalise its salaries to expect its employees to display better work ethic. There is a very strong relation of work ethic with the compensation paid out by the employers. Ask anyone...
Its high time that india and its big population realize the importance of all round growth..They should shun dismantling the government machinery and be a part of the leaps india is taking towards economic development..We dont want to thwart such a chance and start taking pride as indians and not individuals...
I am not sure why your report says that travellers should be prepared for a bad experience at the airport, this is mischevious since it implies that the airports in India are otherwise clean when there are no strikes!!
I fully support Mr Praful Patel and the stand taken by the Indian govt.
It's high time we awaken ourselevs and realize that the airports have to be privatised to enable us tax payers to enjoy and feel good about the way we travel.
AAI employees should stop their unedcuated attitued of supporting non privatisation to cushion themselves .
Go ahead Mr Praful Patel break this jinx once and for all. All the best.......
Yes they should be privatised if we want to have any world class airports in India. Airports in India are the worst I have ever seen in the entire world.
Sir/Madam, It's very unfortunate situation for the government and his employess, why noone in both is ready to rely on eachother.Government is not ready to give the airport modernasiation work to his body Air Port Authority Of India. This is a very serious matter for employees of Air Port Authority ,why government is not ready to believe his part and authorise the work to outside agency. In my opinion it's problem of work culture ,the work culture of a private concern and a government conern is a largerly differnt.Everybody knows the employee of governemnt body, how they are working and taking the responsibilty. In all of the things are responsible for all this of activity. I am strongly in favour of this act of government with certain precaution measure. They should monitor all the work done by the private agencies and take care all of it's matter.
